According to KOMPAS print edition (31st December 2012), 5 foreign clubs also will take part Indonesian Badminton League 2013 : Unisys, Renesas, Tonami (JPN), Korean Ginseng Company (KOR) and Maybank (MAS).

Local club eyes foreign shuttlers for league

Semarang, Central Java: PB Djarum Kudus in Central Java says it is looking to recruit several top women shuttlers from around the world before the Badminton Super League tournament starts in Surabaya, East Java, next month.

The need to hire foreign women players highlights the drought of local talent that the country can rely on.

PB Djarum chief Yoppy Rosimin said on Wednesday the club had yet to determine who would be hired,
because other clubs might be looking at the same names to partake in
the tournament, which is a battle ground for badminton clubs, local and foreign alike.

“We are trying to recruit foreign players to strengthen our women’s singles division, while we’ll remain reliant on our own shuttlers in the men’s divisions,” Yoppy said as quoted by Antara news agency.

Among the women under consideration are world No. 7 Tine Baun of Denmark and world No. 4 Juliane Schenk of Germany.

Since all matches take place within a week, it is a bit of a stretch to call this a league. This kind of competition is commonly referred to as a championship.

Nevertheless, it seems interesting. The short time commitment also makes it easier to involve foreign players.

It would be even more interesting if the organizer develops this into an international club championship.

(Kuala Lumpur, 20/1/2013) Djarum Superliga Badminton Indonesia 2013 makin seru dengan masuknya dua lagi nama pebulutangkis dunia yang akan berlaga di Surabaya, 3-9 Februari 2013 mendatang. Hal ini disampaikan oleh Bambang Roedyanto, Kasubid Hubungan Internasional PBSI.

Pemain tunggal putra China, Wang Zhengming dipastikan akan memperkuat tim SGS PLN bersama Taufik Hidayat dan Kenichi Tago dari Jepang. Klub Mutiara Bandung juga akan diperkuat pemain asing yaitu Porntip Buranaprasertsuk yang berasal dari Thailand. Pemain tunggal putri peringkat 11 dunia ini akan bergabung bersama Aprilia Yuswandari cs.

“Kami sudah mendapat konfirmasi bahwa Wang Zhengming di SGS PLN dan Porntip di Mutiara Bandung. Selain itu, Alamsyah jadi bersama tim Tangkas Specs” ujar Rudy ketika dijumpai di Stadium Putra Bukit Jalil, Kuala Lumpur, Minggu (20/1).

Dua juara Malaysia Open Super Series 2013 juga akan bertarung di superliga. Pemain andalan Malaysia, Lee Chong Wei yang hari ini meraih gelar tunggal putra Malaysia Open untuk kesembilan kalinya, akan bergabung bersama tim Musica. Sementara Tai Tzu Ying, pemain muda asal Taiwan yang sukses meraih gelar tunggal putri akan memperkuat tim Djarum.
