Come across this Chinese article about the Four Heavenly Kings http://sports.qq.com/a/20130103/000494.htm

Instead of translating the whole article, I will just highlight the statistical comparison(only BWF-sanctioned events):

A couple of surprising facts to me:

    1) Lin Dan was ranked WR#1 for 244 weeks (not consecutively), more than Lee CW's 213 (not sure when is the writer's cut-off date but the article above was dated 3rd Jan 2013)?

    2) Taufik's highest rank was #2, never ranked 1 before?

    3) for Peter, the writer included the Copenhagen Masters in his BWF title count - I thought it was already a closed invitational tournament since 2002 (?).

As we know Peter has just retired after 27th Dec 2012's Farewell Match. The article revealed that Taufik has announced his intention to retire when his career spans 13 years and 6 months in the international circuit, which I suppose coincides with the INA Open, his last tournament, this coming June.

Another thing, remember Lin Dan wore a T-shirt bearing the number 17 in Peter Gade's Farewell Match - it refers to the 17 World Championship Titles both team and individual he's garnered so far; that explains it.

if I remember correctly, LD was the world #1 from Feb 2004 to Jun 2006, Sept 2006 to Aug 2008, and Jun 2012 to Sept 2012
TH was the world #1 in 2000, but only for 3 - 4 weeks...compare it by LD and LCW for more than 200 weeks :D
we can check the H2H stats and win - lose records, if they count the result, so we can called it BWF official title. For examples : IBF World Cup, IBF Grand Prix Finals, Asian Games (1998 - 2010), SEA Games (1999 - 2011), East Asian Games (1993 - 2009) was not IBF / BWF official title

17 World Championships titles according to him, but for IBF / BWF, they didn't count Badminton World Cup

As we know, the Four Heavenly Kings are not equal, Lin Dan being first and foremost, the dominant one, overshadowing the rest. The ones who "suffer" the most being Lee CW and Peter. Taufik is luckier for having won a couple of major titles at the beginning of Lin Dan's rise.

Lee CW has to play second fiddle to Lin Dan almost all the time. Unlike other second fiddles that I know of in history, say Alain Prost and Ayrton Senna in F1 racing, Sylvester Stallone and Arnold Schwarzenegger in the entertainment industry, Karpov and Kasparov in chess, for example, where honours, glories and accolades are shared though not evenly - Lee CW's case is too one-sided and unfortunate where he is more like Salieri(minus the animosity) to Mozart; virtually everyone today knows who Mozart is but few seems to have heard of Salieri despite their great rivalry.

A few others who might deserve more than what they'd achieved if they weren't born in the wrong era as Lin Dan's could be Bao Chunlai, Chen Jin, and perhaps Lee Hyun-Il, Sony Dwi Kuncoro (who else?).

Now that Peter has retired, his standing as a heavenly King should have a worthy successor. To me, Chen Long appears a natural choice but I'd like to give him another year to cement his position even though he's already doing no worse than either Peter or Taufik; sounds like an understatement.

Lee Chong Wei, Taufik and Peter are players who have proved their abilities in this badminton arena which will be there in the minds of millions of people for long long time. Taufik's titles were not because of luck as if somebody was mentioning here:mad:. Badminton is a game where you could not achieve or win a title due to luck. Lol  . Taufik is a classic player which i am missing nowadays :( .

Once again,I used the term luck as in success or good fortune or prosperity, in other words your overall circumstances or condition in life, as when you wish somebody best of luck, not in the narrow sense of by chance, a chance happening or fluke. By the way, I believe a few titles that Taufik won were not in matches with Lin Dan, so there weren't any of those kind of luck you had in mind.

Does it mean I've to change the sentence to " Taufik is more fortunate..."?

A few days ago, Peter in his interview with a Chinese online media, Teng Xuan, expressed surprise that Lin Dan did not retire sometime after winning the Beijing Olympic gold, and instead went on to win a second Olympic gold in London. Now he believed Lin Dan still has what it takes to carry on successfully four more years all the way to Rio'16.

I hope to see Lee CW pick himself up and do the same.

Taufik was in peak when he won the titles including Olympic Gold:). He is a legend who got into the millions and millions of people' hearts which nobody has achieved before :). Even with all the cricket craze in their minds, millions and millions of Indians talk about Taufik's performances which he made long time back (along with Lee Chong wei). He truly deserves all the titles which he won because of his wonderful talent and excellent performance :). Truly speaking, if he have had maintained his past abilities, nobody would have been able to attain whatever they have achieved now;).

When he was in peak, how can we forget about the world championships and Asian games which he won against Lin Dan in 2005 and 2006 respectively. He may be in his trailing edge of his career now, but truly speaking he is a marvellous legend :).

I agree with this statement. I already said it several times. OG / WC is just another title, that was held amost every years. every 4 yrs we will have an OG champion. every 2 yrs we will have a world champion (now almost every year). What is so special about that ? an average player like Alan Budi Kusuma can win OG gold. average players like Joko Suprianto and Chen Jin also can win World Championships. Just look at taufik. if he is really special (bcoz he was the first MS that can win OG and WC), then why he only can win max 2 titles / year ?

I am not decreasing the effects of LinDan or LCW or anybody who have done their best in their careers. But i am insisisting here is that the titles which he won (including World Championships and Asian Games against LinDan) were not due to luck. Just because he did not won All England, one cannot decrease his achievements which he made in his wonderful career . Everybody knows about taufik's abilities and performances . Not only myself:). When he won Asian games against LinDan, it was 21 points system. So, you cant blame him that he did not adapt to that system very well.Lol:rolleyes: And when he won Asian Games, it was his ninth year of his career :). So, he already achieved a lot which i think no need to mention here :). Despite from some critics due to his sluggish performances lately, he is a person who could not forgotten by many in this artistic world.

that year (2004), he only can win OG, plus INA open, and ABC when his arch rivals from China were absent, bcoz they already qualify to OG, while TH not yet. If he was in peak, why he only can win max 2 titles / year until now ???
I'm not surprised. China and India has no good relation. even if LD won more titles compare to TH +LCW, Indians will not idolize LD.
with only 2 titles / year, what is so special about TH ?
2005 WC : LD was extremely tired after the SF match vs Gade, no wonder he lose to taufik. For your info, TH blame tiredness as the factor why he lose to Chen Hong, whom he never lose before. 2006 AG : don't forget, LD beats Taufik twice in the team events, the defeat that makes Taufik never won a team title when he is MS1 :p

This is your dream... Lol ;):D... Even if he get knocked out from the remaining tournaments which he participates before his retirements, he will not be forgotten by anybodyelse except you.. Lol ;).. Who will forget such a brilliant badminton player in life?? Lol. Definitely, in the history of badminton till the end, nobody will forget such a wonderful, calm , disciplined player except those who does not want to even hear the achievements which he made in his life time of badminton career :) . Nobody even can think of concealing his achievements simply with their bare hands ;). At the age of 24 (with Chen Long's age now ;)), he already won Asian Games 3 times, Olympics Gold, World championships etc etc etc. So, people who are very well interested in disgracing his efforts will not succed at all. :D

lacks of talents in Indonesia makes PBSI gives chance to 17 y.o. Taufik to compete in int't events, while Chen Long starts his international career at the age of 20. In AG 1998 team event final, TH was the MS2 playing against China. When TH was 19 y.o., he already compete in OG, WC, TC and maybe SC. Cannot be compare to CL. btw, TH won AG 2 times or 3 times ? For Chen Long, after 4 yrs in international circuit, he already won 11 titles, while TH only 21 or 23 titles after 15 yrs of careers :p

Bao Chunlai not even won world championships. Lol :D . Not to mention about Olympics Gold. ha ha. He retired from the badminton not even winning All England, Olympics gold etc. Not to mention many :).

Taufik could only rely on his Taufik Hidayat Arena to make sure he get. remembered only in Indonesia. - Excellent dream of yours :D. Ha ha. Whole world knows that he is a legend in badminton. If you have closed your eyes, did it mean that world becomes dark??:D
