Hi guys and gals, I'm just looking for some advice on my current/past predicament. I can't really decide whether to stick with my badminton training and continue to progress that way, or, continue my running training progressing down that road. My time is very limited therefore, there is no way I could do both full heartedly; however, I could split them in half which is what I am kind of doing right now, but I will never excel or really improve greatly because of the different muscle groups involved and not enough time to train properly. So, should I pursue one with %100 follow through, or continue to split them about 50-50, 60-40 but never really become an expert in either? :4 days a week badminton player, and 50-60km(a week) runner can't decide which to pursue.. Jack of all trades but master of none? Cheers, Justin
Running, cause you only need yourself and the open road . Then again, three feet of snow for 4 months vs a year 'round sport ... (best of both: train for running and play recreational badminton on bitter winter days)
Hi Betazone and demolidor, I have asked myself the question of which I enjoy most many many times...unfortunately, I never come back with a conclusive answer. I enjoy the strategy of badminton singles, the deception, the speed of the game, the feel of the racquet, and everything associated with badminton...the thing I don't like about badminton, is the sore arm and shoulder after an intense tournament or ladder match due to alot of smashing... Running is a "beast of its own". I enjoy short 5k runs where it's fast, intense and down right exciting. I enjoy longer 10k runs, where it's so fluid, rhythmical, and this immense focus comes over me. I run on a treadmill during the winter months demolidor, so snow isn't an issue. Best of both? Which brings me back to never being able to master either. Mastery is very important to me, however, it requires a singular focus, thought, or idea. I would like to hear if anyone else has every been in this situation. Cheers, Justin
relax and do both as you enjoy both equally dont be too aggressive with your body please, you wanna do it long years to come! you wont become a professional in any of it anyhow i guess so a specialisation to get the absolut very best possible performance out of your body is not compulsury imo personally, i think it is more satisfying to beat certain players in badminton as a motivation to get better than running personal best times in 10km or whatever distance against only oneself (although i know that running personal best times is also great fun) i also like the idea of running more when good weather and playing more badminton when bad weather as I think its an upside of badminton that you can play it regardless of the weather and at the sametime a downside that its a pitty to be in a sticky gym while summerweather is outside the gym
That amount of time to put into sports is impressively good. Lucky you! But what are the objectives of either sport?
I have no delusion of ever becoming a professional in either sports; however,a certain level of mastery would be nice. My objective is to stay fit, healthy and enjoy my hobbies.
depends on what you want to do. If it's a certain level of mastery, you can do both at the same time. If it's to be an expert / world class in one or the other, then obviously gotta pick one. Can't really help you per se, as I'm a "one sport at a time" person.
this is too vague. You need a decision on the target to help you. Do you aim for being amongst the best in your city or your province in either sport?

well, i play 3-4 times badminton a week and run 30-50km a week. in my opinion, these two things don't conflict unless you are on a very very high (alomost professional) level... so go ahead if you enjoy both!
