Lin Dan and the 2013 World Championship qualification

We are about 3 months away to the end of the qualification period for the 2013 world championship in August.

This is the rule regarding the total number of players from any member association;

Players / pairs ranked on eligibility date Total number of players / pairs from any one Member Association in that event shall not exceed 1 to 8 4 9 to 24 3 25 to 150 2

The current MS ranking (24/01/2013) and points for the Chinese players since 3rd May 2012 is;

Rank Points 2 CHEN Long 73330.316 3 DU Pengyu 58746.31 14 WANG Zhengming 40030 4 CHEN Jin 40912.91 13 LIN Dan 26823.411

Obviously, it’s out of the question for China to send the maximum of 4. Currently the rank 24 has 42219.5 points let’s assume this is the target for now.
That should be a formality for WANG Zhengming and CHEN Jin to get the points to stay in the top 24 but not so certain for LIN Dan, unfortunately.

Between now and the end of April we have;

Winner Runner up 3/4 German GP Gold 7000 5950 4900 All England Premier 11000 9350 7700 Swiss GP Gold 7000 5950 4900 Australian GP Gold 7000 5950 4900

Note - India 2013 SS finishes just outside the qualification period.

Lin Dan needs about 16000 points to get to the top 24. If he couldn't get enough points from the German and AE he may go for the Australian GP Gold otherwise 3 of China’s top 24 might have to sacrifice their places if China decided to send Lin to the world championship anyway.

No pressure then.

don't think it's possible.

there is a good reason for that, say if i start a thread "put your name down to receive $100 from me" and change that to "give" later!

Lin Dan has just quashed those rumours about his delayed comeback and re-confirmed he is playing in the All England come March ! Hip, hip, hurray!

This year is the first time for many years that I’ve decided not going to the AE.
After the WC and Olympics at Wembley for the last 2 years I think I needed to cool down a bit, too much excitements. Anything after those 2 would be an anti-climax, I think.

I have a ticket for the semi-final day, Lin Dan will have a very bad seeding (if he is seedes overall) - so it could be a nice semi-final match Lin Dan vs LCW
