HYDERABAD : Former All England champion Pullela Gopichand’s dream of setting up an international badminton academy in the city could become a reality soon as the cabinet on Wednesday decided to offer him on lease five acres of land at Gachibowli at a nominal rate.

The Potti Sreeramulu Telugu University too would get its much-awaited piece of land on the outskirts of the city for construction of a permanent building. It would get 100 acres at Bachupalli in Rangareddy district.

The cabinet also decided to allocate 30 acres of land at Thokatta in Rangareddy district to Sri Ramananda Tirtha Institute of Socio-Economic Research and National Integration for cultivation of herbal and medicinal plants. Former prime minister P V Narasimha Rao heads the governing body of the institute.

Another significant land alienation approved by the cabinet pertains to 297 acres at Pottur, also in Rangareddy district, to the AP Industrial Infrastructure Corporation (Apiic) for expansion of the Biotech Park . The land would be made available to Apiic at market value.
