Could anyone suggest tips for me on receiving smashes in singles that go down the 2 sides. I can get the ones that require minimal movement (Extending my racket to the left and right side) but I find that im not fast enough to return the ones that are really well placed. Does anyone have any tips on how to anticipate where the smash is going?
You don't anticipate as a rule. You get low, split drop, and then move. The length of your lift has a massive effect on what you can get back! If your clear/lift was right into the corner, then obviously your base should be biased to that side of the court.
Agree with the get low Lower you are, the wider the base position you're left with which means the court isn't as open for your to attack. The only liability to being low is if your opponent plays an attacking clear or just not a smash, you're at a bit of a disadvantage.
What if your opponent punch you to the back or slice you? oh oh.. Just get ready to stretch the legs and arms.
