Only when I'm driving to badminton. Currently my car is a 1991 time warp. Nirvana, Alice in Chains, Smashing Pumpkins, Rage Against the Machine, Pearl Jam, Red Hot Chili Peppers, Screaming Trees... Ah good times.

Hmm, I have never listened to music before playing badminton. Usually I will be busy warming up or watching others play - either enjoying the match or to see which weaknesses can be exploited. :D

I agree. Music keeps me pumped. However, I don't do it every time because unfortunately, I don't get to listen to it when I play in a tournament. But it definitely helps. When I warmup for tournaments I listen to pop, rap (sometimes), or rock. It gets me fired up. But when I drive to practice I find that when I sing, it puts me in a better mood. So then before practice I sing in the car to country or spanish music.

There is already another thread on this, but generally anything as long as it is loud and aggressive just to get me warmed up.

Not that I'm embarrassed about listening to country music, but it's not something I'd roll down my windows and sing to :p

I guess i would be the oddball that plays ambience music before games? Karena's new CD is really good for that.

BRL, do I assume you like to go on to the court mellow? If so are you more of a laid back player or can you just tune into the game as you need to?

The reason that I like loud metal is to get me in the mood to play attacking badminton (I know it sounds stupid) but I consider myself a defensive player and have been trying to change over the last two years but those bad habits are not easy to give up.

heavy metal maybe ok for double games but i prefer music with some rhymic beats to it for doing drills or playing singles.

i actually find that the rhythm in the music destroys the rhythm in my game.

perhaps before the game during the drive to the gym, but definitely not immediately before it. else my head will be stuck with the rhythm and all my strokes will be off.

ever been to a music store in which they are playing loud music? do you notice that you will start walking with the rhythm?

    Dill,
you guessed right. I'm having the exact opposite problem as you now. I find that i've been overly relying on brute force and speed to win matches rather than a well-played finess game. Variety is the spice of life :)

that's true kwun but... when one is tired and the pace start to drop, having the right rhythm in one's head would help sustain the pace.:) I should correct my last post, i think having the right music would enhance training and drills, and not much so before games because one want to change pace throughout real games.

Having the right music does help, I think it is above 60 beats per minute to get the the required effect mentally.

Personally I have never found music to be of any help when training as I think you should go till you can't perform any longer at 100%.

on the way to the gym i'll listen to trance or just music w/ no words in general. Before the game, I'll listen to something calming and soothing, like jazz or some ambient stuff. I guess that sounds kinda weird, almost like I have bipolar or something like that. :D
