This is the procedure i follow every few dozen stringjobs. It makes the clamp motion much much smoother.
You can lube this top surface to your heart's content; the clamping action happens on the bottom of the rail and inside the clamp base. GT85 is a good one for this, but basically anything with Teflon in it.
good point about the bottom of the rail. that's why you see me emphasize the top and the sides, which is where the main contact points are when the clampbase is being moved. there is hardly any contact at the bottom at all. also, i find lubes like GT85 and WD40 alike are too thin for this purpose. the metal will cut through it too easily. the feeling is smoother when i use lube with higher viscosity. bike lube works much better in this regard.
GT85 does need "topping up" (but those bases really fly when it's fresh); I'll give chain lube a try.
kwun: Has your table got a bit of wobble to it? Or was it just an illusion on the video? ---- (btw who is that mysterious Pete_LSD guy who liked post #4? Some sort of ghost from BC's long distant past? )
my machine is standing on carpet. i need to somehow make it more stable, haven't found a solution yet.
yes. but the attachment is the problem. somehow Gamma (or their OEM) decides to use some strange standard thread on the feet. so it will be hard to find spikes that fit the hole. i am thinking of making a little wooden puck thingy with nails at the bottom to nail to the floor board, over the carpet. that will be project for a couple of hours over the weekend, hunting down the material and making it. after that, no more wobbly machine in the videos.
Hi Kwun, Where did you buy "Pedro's BIO Degreaser"? I couldn't find the same bottle as you have. Thanks
my bottle is pretty old so i am not surprised it doesn't exist anymore. currently Pedro sells a "Oranj Peelz Degreaser" that should be similar. or any degreaser from Home Depot will work fine (and probably cost less as well...)
