" dark is the night, i can weather the storm..
never say die.. i've been down this road before..
i'll never quit.. i'll never lay down..
see i've promised myself that i'd never let me down..
so i'll never give up.. never give in..
never let a ray of doubt slip in..
and if i fall.. i'll never fail..
i'll just get up and try again..
never lose hope.. never lose faith..
there's much too much at stake..
upon myself i must depend..
i'm not looking for a place for show..
i'm gonna win..
no stopping now.. there are still ways to go..
someway, somehow..
whatever it takes i'll know..
i'll never quit.. i'll never go down..
i'll make sure they remember my name..
a hundred years from now.. "
Part from Brian McKnight's song 'Win'.. haha.. the song is slow.. but has a good meaning behind it.. its from the movie Men of Honor.. its got Cuba Gooding Jnr.. i reckon its a pretty good movie.. quite moving.. being an african american nval officer, his character actually gets pushed around alot by his peers.. the seniors don't want to see him succeed.. so they 'rig' his tests and equipment and stuff.. dispite this.. he pushes himself to succeed.. pretty good movie.. actually based on a true story..

A year or two ago, after the XD final in our local tourney, the club chief who handed out the plaques said this losing male finalist as he gave him the runner's-up plaque, albeit in a joking manner: "You know what second place means, don't you? It means that you lost."

Football Quotes...
... since most quotes are not about badminton anyway.
Classic Case of Counting Chickens
"I think we can go the whole season unbeaten", -Arsene Wenger's 2002-2003 season opener quote on Arsenal's chances. They went on to slip up at the critical last two months and lost the title. He was observed not to have said the same thing again on the following season.
Gordon Stratchan Classics
For those who are not so well versed in English Football, Stratchan is a Scottish manager who had the quickest of wits and tongue when it comes to giving out good answers to reporters, albeit full of sarcasm. His quotes had become famous classics in the the football world.
I've added explainations for some less obvious quotes for the benefit of those who don't quite get it.
Reporter: Welcome to Southampton Football Club. Do you think you are the right man to turn things around?
Strachan: No. I was asked if I thought I was the right man for the job and I said, "No, I think they should have got George Graham because I'm useless."
Reporter: Is that your best start to a season?
Strachan: Well I've still got a job so it's far better than the Coventry one,
that's for sure.
Reporter: Are you getting where you want to be with this team? Strachan: We're not doing bad. What do you expect us to be like? We were eighth in the league last year, in the cup final and we got into Europe. I don't know where you expect me to get to. Do you expect us to win the Champions League?
Reporter: Gordon, you must be delighted with that result?
Strachan: You're spot on! You can read me like a book.
Strachan: I've got more important things to think about. I've got a yogurt
to finish by today, the expiry date is today. That can be my priority rather than Agustin Delgado.
Regarding a rift between the two caused by the player's persistent jibes on the Scotsman for not selecting him for matches. Delgado was injured, by the way.

Reporter: This might sound like a daft question, but you'll be happy to get your first win under your belt, won't you?
Strachan: You're right. It is a daft question. I'm not even going to bother answering that one. It is a daft question, you're spot on there.
Reporter: Bang, there goes your unbeaten run. Can you take it?
Strachan: No, I'm just going to crumble like a wreck. I'll go home, become an alcoholic and maybe jump of a bridge. Umm, I think I can take it, yeah.
Reporter: There's no negative vibes or negative feelings here?
Strachan: Apart from yourself, we're all quite positive round here. I'm going to whack you over the head with a big stick, down negative man, down.
Reporter: Where will Marion Pahars fit into the team line-up?
Strachan: Not telling you! It's a secret.
Marion Pahars is a striker, obviously he will play up front.
Reporter: You don't take losing lightly, do you Gordon?
Strachan: I don't take stupid comments lightly either.
Reporter: So, Gordon, in what areas do you think Middlesbrough were better than you today?
Strachan: What areas? Mainly that big green one out there...
Post-match defeat interview.
Reporter: Gordon, a quick word if you please...
Strachan: 'Velocity'. *walks away*
Reporter: Gordon, Do you think James Beatie deserves to be in the England squad?
Strachan: I don't care, I'm Scottish!
I wonder if Li Yongbo is this 'good' with his tongue ...

Be afraid not of growing slowly, but be afraid of standing still.
- Chinese Proverb (paraphrased) -
Bring the enemy to a battle only in the terms of your choosing.
- Sun Tzu's Art of War -
Trouble is that even the Chinese can fall in Beijing, Indonesians lose in Jakarta and Danes defeated at Copenhagen...

simply red sings:
"if you don't know me by now,
you will never never never know me.."
and i think there's just too much truth in that.

Erm, can you explain that? There are not set time limits to knowing people, and the concept of 'knowing' somebody depends on that person whom you try to know, how much he/she wants you to know them and how they will let you know them.

Ah Wilfred, Gordon Strachan is a genius at put downs especially with reporters.
Another one for the phrases "winning is not everything, it's the only thing"

As soon as I saw this thread I was thinking along the same lines as jamesd20, particularly Lance's appearance in Dodgeball. There are very few people in the world who can find an excuse to give up once they know his story.
My favourite T-shirt is: "The liver is evil and should be punished."
For aching lyrics on the subjects of life, love and loss: Buy yourself a copy of Jackson Browne's 'Late for the Sky' album.
Best quote for badminton: "It doesn't matter how good you think you are and how bad you think your opponent is - if you are losing they are playing better badminton than you."
Best philosophy for badminton and for life: "Simple Things."
