Hey guys, So last week I received my hawk 80 from eagnas, and it seemed to be working just fine. Tensioning was just fine, the six point kept my racquet safe while stringing at 30lbs (just for fun) But once I finished stringing and was about to take the racquet off, I noticed that at the 12 o'clock support, the screw-like structure rubs against the string. Though it didn't seem to do much damage (the strings were fine) and they played just as well, I'm worried that if I were to string others racquets, they might break while trying to unmount them. Any suggestions on what I should do ?
return it. i am serious. unless they have improved it, you will soon find the side support is not secure. no matter how you secure it, the friction hold side support will eventually slide and completely useless in holding the racket frame inwards. and yes, the mounting post screw thread will rub the string when you remove the racket, but that's the least of the machine's problem.
Oh damn... if I were to return it, or even sell it to someone else (I live in Canada so shipping it all the way back is a pain) what could I possibly get instead ?
Yeah Eagnas machines are usually terribly designed unfortunately You could go for an Alpha Shuttle Express or a Pro's Pro machine. You can find Pro's pro machines on http://www.arfaian.com, Watdon strings or racquetdepot. The ASE is hard to find nowadays unfortunately, but it is better than the Pro's Pro Shuttle Express.
also becareful with the tension scale on the hawk80. buy a digital fish scale and calibrate the scale. on the hawk80 i had, 21lbs on the scale translates to around 24lbs actual. so if you trust the scale at 30lbs, it might become 35lbs.
Putting a drinking straw around the thread will protect the string,you might have to cut the side of the straw if it is too tight
How can you return a stringing machine that was made to string tennis rackets. The holding screw for Gamma X-2 has the same situation, the simpliest way is to grind both side flat and sand them smooth.
why not cut a straw length-wise and place it over the screw when you unmount? I saw a picture on BC somewhere... Then the strings slide along the straw (instead of screwwire)
Last night my friend asked me to string his racquet at 25x27, and when I finished and was about to take it off, I just pulled the middle main strings outward which reduced the abrasion on the post. There seem to be no damage done to the string.
