I'd like to hear what people are paying for stringing. There are huge variation in labor and string cost in different part of the world. I know labor can cost as low as RMB10 in China and can go as high as US$20 or GBP15-20.

here in my part of the US, it is not uncommon for shops to list around US$18+tax for labor only, but most shops charge around US$15. i charge $12 labor for my stringing.

in HK labor cost is HK$50-60.

how about where you live?

Last time I got my racket restrung I spent $40 CAD. That included string (bg80), plus labour. So I am pretty sure it was about $25-28 for the labour.
When I went to play, I also noticed that one of the grommets was split on one of the tie-offs. I don't think I will be getting my racket restrung there again.

There is a huge gap here between general sports stores and specialized stores.

General sports store charge about 20-25$ for labor. Their usual pricing strategy is to sell their strings for the string price + labor. So you can't buy your string alone, but if you buy your BG65 for ~33$ including taxes, it will include the labor.

Specialized stores usually charge special prices if you buy the string there and have them string your racket. For instance, the string can cost 12$, the labor is 15-20$, but they'll charge 20-25$ for string and labor if you buy their string.

My prices (specialized badminton store) are usually 15$ for labor with your string, 9$ if you buy my strings. So BG65 would be 20$ + taxes all included.

At the nearest shop it costs 19€ for BG65, on tournaments it's around 14-16€ (depending on string). What do you think a stringing newbie should take for labour only?

The best guy I know in my area charges $18 for labour. However I went to another place for my Vt-80 because of urgency and it cost me $15 for labour but the way he tied off cause 2 grommets to split so I'm not going there again!

I charge $15 for labour, and sell my strings at slightly higher than cost to protect me from exchange rates. Mainly string for friends and people at my club.

A couple of other stringers I know charge around $20 for labour, and a sport store charges $40 with string

Wow that expensive, In Singapore, the most the stringers would charge at around 12 buck SGD for labour and if u purchase the strings in there shop they would charge the sting money and free labour. For example Yonex BG 66 cost 21 bucks SGD and u will pay 22 bucks net price no hidden charges.

Here in Brunei, the labour price is free if you purchase the strings in the same shop.

Decathlon charges £12 with your own strings, and roughly £18+ with theirs depending on string.

Here (belgium) 80% uses BG65, price from €16 (most common price at tournaments) up to €19 (rare). No one seems to care about different strings. Different rackets however...
Because none has strings labour cost isn't really known.

Most common tension: 9-10,5kg -> around 22lbs.
People tend to play with lower tension due to slower shuttles (colder climate?)
kwun and others: what is the average tension for the average competition player in your country?

i only string for intermediate recreational players. not anyone who compete at a high level regularly.

on average i think tension is around 24lbs. with most ranging from 22lbs to 28lbs. but most are at the lower end of that range.
