What's wrong with this????
Long story short, friend of mine has his T1 string up from someone as I was out of town and he needed the racquet to play. But he keep saying that the fresh string job on his T1 feels like crap and last night he handed that to me and ask me to re-string for him. I didn't pay much attention to it until I got home and pull it out the bag ..........
And I am like WTF ...................

Is that 6 knots i see???

Should be very stable stringbed... 1string for crosses and 1string for each side of mains.

i'd be interested to see how the pattern is done. ie. which string segment for each of the 3 strings. whether it was intentional or done due to a patch job.
there is nothing inherent wrong or wrong in a general sense with 6 knots, just like there isn't anything wrong with 2 or 4 knots either. it all depends on how the string segments are laid out and more importantly the tensioning pattern which cannot be deciphered on a finished racket.

from the knots location, i am suspecting the stringer was doing a 4 knot, top down, and then either forgotten or ran out of string for the bottom cross. and then he decided to weave a single string for that cross string so it won't look too empty at the bottom.

^^ In that case, your friend can't blame the stringjob for his poor play.

As others have mentioned it's either a patch work or ran out of string . . . Will be interesting to see the results after you dissect it

Thats the first time I have seen something like this.. Like Kwun mentioned, I dont think there is anything wrong with it but obviously the stringer messed up by either taking less string or the string broke in between! Either way, very interesting!

Ok, after some tracing work, this is what I find:
- cross starts at A8 rather than the usual A7
- one side of the main was too short so it stops at B9 and tied off at B8
- a patch string tied off at B9 to finished up the missing last 2 main then tied off at B7
Tension is likely not very even but the last 2 main shouldn't affect the playability that much??

you mean the last 2 cross?

so then the most likely conclusion is that it is not an accident. as for the mains one would have started evenly in the middle. but having to be 2 segments short means that he knowingly started unevening due to the shortened string.
but also at the same time, not smart enough to realize that a main string that is 2 segment short is probably long enough to do the crosses.

or maybe some accident happened and he cut the wrong string.
but in whatever case, it is a sloppy job. once a stringer realize this he should've started over. esp when it only involve the mains, it should be at most 8-10mins extra.
