Just wondering. Hand-washing should save getting a new one every time the grip gets scavvy and worn. Once it has dried, you can use double-sided tape to stick it back on. Simple! But like normal face towels, they tend to get rough over a period of time. What do you guys think?

I think its worth just spending a couple of quid on a new grip TBH.

The double sided tape is probably half the cost of a new grip & won't hold as well & is fiddly to apply.

^^ agree. Washing the towel grip might even wear out the grip even more. Seems to me it'd be a lot of effort put into it if the towel grip was really dirty/old sweat.

Ive seen a towel grip used by a player from Quebec which was essentiallly a glove. He had a white grip on the bottom , and then you could slip on the towel grip, so he would switch it every so often. It was closed at the bottom so it was like a glove. :p Very cool

I rather spend my time changing new towel grips than washing it and reuse. Anyway towel grips nowadays is not that thick.

That's an interesting point Ants, I bought two colours - Red and Black, the red one is twice as thick as the black.

Anyone else noticed the inconsistency in their towel grips

Wash it? no way, I would only replace it, not wash it.
If you buy it in rolls, then the cost is pretty low.

I was shown a neat trick to preserve your towel grips after they start getting crusty and hard...

Take scissors, open them, and scrape one of the sharp bladed edges quickly back and forth over the length of the towel grip. Do it all around the grip and you'll see bits of the terry cloth (towel material) start falling off. Afterwards you'll have what feels and looks like a brand new grip. You can do this many times until the grip starts to look really worn out.

When I was using towel grip, I used to do something similar. After the session, I take a toothbrush (which I carry in my bag) and just scruff the grip up. It seemed to make the grip last quite a bit longer.

I wash my towel grips after every game. However, my towel grips are the "sock type" slip-on towel grips from Carlton which slip on and off quite easily. I have several in my bag so I can change the one on my racket the moment it gets too soaked during the game. I've had to install extra-tacky overgrips over the original grips to help hold on to the "socks" though. Installing the socks over slick grips will cause your racket to fly further than the shuttlecock! :D
