I'm sure there's tonnes of threads on this, I've sworn I've read like 4-5 lol.
In any case, steaming does help, yes. But steaming with HOT water boiling CAN damage the shuttles as the heat could cause damage.
What you SHOULD do, is use a humidifier. Cool humid air will "steam" the shuttles and hydrate them. Most people who live in dry climates have their own shuttlecock humidifier. Myself included.
Just hold the tube at the nozzle for a bit, let the humid air go through it for a while, reverse the tube, repeat, and then seal it. Do this around 24 hours beforehand
Sometimes, for me... I trap a bit of extra moisture in... But over-hydrating causes the shuttles to become heavy as well, so make sure you don't do that. That was my mistake the first time!

Just tried steaming from showering on RSL classic tourney and it works pretty good.
