Hi, I currently use the pros pro xp plus stringing machine. I'm started to get annoyed with how load the machine is when it reaches tension, the brake make a Big Bang with it flips back when the string reaches tension, I've tried putting padding where the brake may hit but it didnt make a difference, starting to think its an internal noise.... also I've noticed every now and then the screws that hold the main plastic body of on the tensioner become a tiny bit loose and re tightening those reduces the noise a little but only for a few minutes and it becomes loud again. any ideas on how to make it quieter? Only until the end did I realize the OP meant loud stringing machine... Is it the sound the brakes make as it clamps onto the disk?
I had a similar problem with my shuttle express, and it was the lever hitting the plasic casing due to the brake not being adjusted properly. When the tension is reached and the brake gets applied, the lock out lever should stop short of that plastic case, but i forget how it's adjusted as i use a WISE now...
ahh ok! is there a way to take off the plastic case without damaging anything? just to get a look at where it might be hitting... if you remember.. please let me know
Adjusting the locking lever travel is probably one of the most difficult things to do with a stringing machine - I ended up sending mine away to have it done after I cocked it up!
Oh.. Ok thanks i thought maybe I could put a few grips into the case opening where it travels to reduce the distance it can travel... I.e. stop the arm before it reaches whatever it's hitting?
Does it actually make contact with the platic case? could you post a picture of it when it's locked out? I seem to remember that i took the case off mine to adjust it first time, but i *think* you can do it by turning the allen bolt in the middle a little bit (don't take that as gospel though, mine's in a box somewhere so i might be talking fluff). Did you get it from W&D by any chance? Give Robin an ring/email if you did, he should be able to give you some pointers i would imagine.

If it's going back that far, it's possible that the brake isn't engaging properly. Personally, I'd get it adjusted so that the locking lever stops before it hits the cowling. That was how mine was when I first bought it.

yeah, looks like it's not adjusted properly, does the brake hold it on high tensions? Iirc i got mine to lock out with around an inch to spare from that plastic housing.
Try turning the hex bolt before the "normal" bolt. You're lossening one while tightening the other, so they might not move if you try to do both at the same time.
