How many of you buy a reel of strings and bring it to a stringer to string?

I think that instead of buying packs, I can just buy a reel and save money. Anyone of you guys buy a reel and then just bring it to your stringer to string your racket?

have been thinking about it with zm62, but 20 sets from a reel will last me a lifetime...

    Yep. 200m per roll.
And you only need 9.5m for each stringjob.
So if you're careful, you can get 21 sets out of a reel. :)

So what would you do if you're in my situation? 20 does seem like it can last a lifetime. I probably don't string more than 3-4 times a year.

"your situation"? sounds grave. buy set of 10 zymax-s from Eric (squash_mart) or from MBS for less than 40 bucks and don't complicate things.

MBS 10 packs Zymax is $47.00 shipped and Eric is $39.95 + $5.00 shipped. It is not complicated by simply outdated. One reel from MBS is only $72.00 shipped which is even simplier.

For me, it's not worth buying the reel. Disadvantages:

    1) stringer is going to say "here's that guy who wastes my time" :)
    2) over three years, you might lose that reel
    3) over three years, the strings age - performance of the last stringing will be unpredictable
    4) what do you do if you want to try other strings?

These are synthetic material. Will the performance of these strings degrade over a period of a few years?

So I suppose that you only buy a few packs and string ten rather than a reel?

Performance: that must have been why I used the word 'unpredictable':)

Where I live, stringing services are more accessible and labour fairly cheap. I don't break strings as often as before so it's not worth me buying a reel nor having my own machine.

You can squeeze more than 21 from a reel using a 2-piece pattern. The key is the use of starting clamps;) Having said that, I have never managed to squeeze more than 23 sets from a reel. Two piece method is great in many aspects, but not really in this one:(

Depends on the machine as well. For ultimate string saving, Kwun's WASE (Wise+ASE) will come in handy;)

i get bored over the same thing easily, so i can't stick with just one string.

i am still in the process of trying different strings as well.

    i don't break strings quickly, maybe if i play a lot more i could, but i don't.

so having a reel will last me at least a year if not more. and looking at bg65 again i think it'll last me way more than 1.5yrs if i get a reel.

How many other strings are really worth trying? I personally prefer thin strings, but if you play with nylon, then thicker gauges may make more sense at least from an economic perspective. I would like to eventually try out Adidas strings, but I don't really see a reason to given how addicted I am to Ashaway strings at the moment.
