I may be moving due due to job related stuff from Vancouver to Austin, Texas. Not exactly the a hub of badminton activity unfortunatly. I currently play at the vancouver racquets club (VRC), so i'm spoiled by the 24 hour access, and the wealth of friendly competition, am looking for something similar if possible.

Anyone here play in austin and could show me around there? I searched a bit on the web and the only thing i could find was the UT Badminton club and they're don't accept non students. :(

They accept non-students, you just have to make yourself known. Go down one practice. I'm sure they'll let you play, especially now since they're experiencing a shortage of students.

There is also a club in Round Rock (close to Austin). Here's the info for that one:
    CLAY MADSEN RECREATION CENTER
    • Club Type: Public
    • Club Location Activities: 1600 Gattis School Road, Clay Madsen Recreation Center, Round Rock, TX
    • Club Meets: Sat. 2:00 - 6:00 pm, Tues. 7:00 - 11:00 pm
    • Membership & Dues: Members of recreation center play free, various durations of membership available. See Web Site. Single Day Member $5.00
    • Annual Tournaments: To be decided
    • Point of Contact: Nette Lueker (nlueker@round-rock.tx.us, Jeronimo Rodrigues (jeronimorodrigues@cheerful.com)
    • Address: 1600 Grattis School Road, Round Rock 78664-7013
    • Telephone: • Fax: None • Email: nlueker @round-rock.tx.us jeronimorodrigues@cheerful.com
    • Web Address: http://ci.round-rock.tx.us/parks-rec/CMRC.htm

I know they have many juniors (very young juniors) playing and I know some adults play but I'm not sure how many or their level of play. Of course, if you want to drive an hour and a half you could come down to San Antonio and play with us [just a suggestion :)]

To let you know there's an upcoming Texas tournament in January in Waco, Texas at Baylor University which is a few hours drive. And then UT in Austin has their Open tournament around March.

    Hope I was some help,
    Ruth

Their website says no non-students can play at UT because it's so full. :(

If you want to practice there I can possibly ask if you could play. They let me and I don't go to school there. Well, I've never gone, but their invitation is always open to me.

I may have to take you up on that offer in the new year. Looks like there's no one else from that area that reads Badminton Central... not a good sigh. :*(

I heard there was a Waco tournement. I'm going to be busy with a move during that time, perhaps for the next tourny that's nearby i'll head there to check it out.

I can't play as often as i'd like, as the play times in the near by areas aren't as convient to my work schedule. :(

I completely missing the 24 hour facilities. Plus some of the community centers sometimes don't have very good competition. But at least there are players to play against. :)

Is it easy to buy badminton supplies in Texas?

I guess you will try to inspire/encourage your fellow Texas badminton-ers to be the level you want.:)

Don't mean to bump an old thread, but I have also just recently moved to Austin and am looking for a place and people to play with. Websites don't offer much assistance so I was hopefully looking to meet someone here to go and play with. I was an intermediate player at best and still moving upwards, but due to other obligations had to stop for a while. Would really like someone to play doubles with as that's what Ive primarily played, but I'm down for singles too.
