http://www.ontariobadminton.on.ca/O...6A67A74B65A889CA86256DE8007062A9?OpenDocument This looks like a really good opportunity... too bad I won't be able to go, and I likely wouldn't get in anyways. Only $25... Phil
This is something I don't understand: I thought Gong ZC has decided to retire & open her badminton shop in Canton. Why is she coming to Toronto for this Mini Camp? I got the feeling she is not coming to promote badminton.....If she is doing this because of $$$$$, I'm very disappointed on her!
Re: Re: Mini Camp with Gong Zhichao in TO I really can not agree with you. Each person only pay CND$25, say every penny going to her pocket, how much she will get??? I don't think the total can even pay for her airplane ticket and hotel. Never have to metion there's another player (a junior player) coming with her as well. They might come not just for this mini camp (visit, etc) but surely not just aiming for $$$.
I agree with LB. On the contrary, GZC and SWW may use this trip as a way to build promote badminton, build connection, visit Toronto and /or friends in Ontario. Business person is allow to travel too . If she is here to make money, 25 CAD for 3 hrs is a bargain because that price won't get you coaching from a local 'A' player with shuttles and court time provided. If the mini camp is a money bonanza, she should be stopping over at vancouver, calgary, ottawa, etc etc etc. And if you are lucky enough to get her autograph or picture with you, that 25 CAD seem awfully cheap.
Exactly. If the mini camp is not just limited to juniors, I might just drive all the way up to participate as well. Taking a pic with my favorite player (besides Pi Hongyan) is my dream.
From the sounds of it, the mini-camp is sponsored both by the Mandarin club and OBA 'coz it is limited to 16 players based on their Junior rankings. I would take full advantage of it if I am eligible to go as you are getting time with a world class player and should be able to come away with some useful tips.
whoever decides to go (and you will be a fool not to... ) tell us how it goes and may be some pictures?
I've heard that you can also not do the training but you can watch. This is free for Mandarin members but not for outsiders... from what I've been told. But they also said it might be full... Phil
Phil, yes, it's almost full now, my coach at Mandarin told me today. There's only standing room left. I'll try to get some pictures of the event ...
Hey, I just found out that you can arrange private lessons with Gong for $138 per lesson of 50 mins. But what do they mean when they says one of the Mandarin Club's coach must be present during the private lesson? To me, it's not a private lesson with Gong then?
unless you speak mandarin, the other coach will be a translator i assume... i hope i can get a pic with her and then get it autographed...... that's my goal... forget lessons... no time... >.<#
If you're going to the camp I have a friend who was team mate with Gong Z C, she said one of Gong's best shot is her back court drop from her backhand side to the forehand side. Make sure you guys ask her to demonstrate that shot if you are going to the camp. My friend said Gong uses a lot of slice to hit a wide angle sharp drop which is very hard to get. Hope you guys have fun in the camp, I hope she'll come to Bay Area sometime.
Unfortunately, I have been accepted to the afternoon class. Now I have to waste $25 bucks to go to it. You people are lucky that you're not going cause you don't have to waste $25 for 3 hours.
If you are so unhappy about it then give your spot to someone who probably would get more from it than you. No point in wasting your time and money if you are not too keen on it. I am sure that there are a lot of others who would love to go but can't get a spot.
