Does anyone know what kind of factory strings high-end Yonex or Victor rackets have? I've played with cheaper rackets with factory strings when I was younger, but I've never tried a high-end racket with it's original strings. Anyone care to share their thoughts on them as well?
Yonex high end rackets are strung in BG65Ti, lower priced rackets in BG55. Victor high end rackets are strung in VS850 whereas lower end rackets are strung in Ashway Zymax 70. Paul www.badminton-coach.co.uk
Really? That's interesting. For me, most shops even have their high-ends strung. Sometimes you'd find one that isn't, but for the most part it's the former.
I missed this part on first reading. So... They're crap. The tension is much too low, and I don't personally like BG-65 and similar (they seem to lose tension really fast). I would get the racket restrung immediately. Even if you just go for BG-80 @ 22 lbs, it will be better than the factory strings. If you're spending £100+ on a racket, it seems daft not to get some decent strings. I've never used a Victor racket, but every brand I have tried has come with rubbish strings. I expect Victor would be the same. Then again, plenty of players are perfectly happy without ever getting a racket restrung!
at least in northern california in the USA, high end rackets are never strung. some stores, however, do pre-string some mid end rackets themselves at around 24-25lbs with bg65ti. unfortunately, anything prestrung, in my opinion, is not that good because you never know how long the racket's been sitting there with the same strings. i recommend, like what someone had already mentioned, that when you buy a new mid/high end racket, if it comes with strings, just cut them and restring whatever string you want at your desired tension.
