I have been watching the Iron Chef on Saturday nights when I should be playing badminton instead (!) and I enjoy it tremendously.

The show, if my memory serves me right (Chairman-Kaga-style), won accolades in the US and is one of the most popular shows there. We recently got the Iron Chef here in Malaysia and I find it pretty fascinating as the (sadistic) chairman would pit his invincible chefs against some of the very best in Japan and the rest of the world, often times with much odds against the them. Imagine Chef Michiba (Japanese-cuisine) were told to use truffles in his cooking!

The thing that makes them awesome is the ability to actually use something which is totally alien and succesfully blend it with their field of cooking.

The one we are watching here are those of 96 or 95, but regardless, it's a great show altogether!

Of all three chefs, who is your favourite?

    Chef Chen Kenichi - Chinese
    Chef Rokusaburo Michiba - Japanese
    Chef Hiroyuki Sakai - French
    Actress Mayuko Takata.

(Wait, Takata-san is not part of the highlight of the show but what's her name doing there? :D Oh well, she's ultra-adorable, nonetheless...)

I like Chef Sakai the best, as he is perhaps the most creative of them all and is perhaps the best culinary artist in terms of decoration and presentation.

    How about you?

Michiba is IC Japanese #2 ... I like the third one better Masaharu Morimoto. He's got a restaurant in NY called Nobu and another one in Philly called "Morimoto Restaurant." Dinner is about USD100 per person or around there for the Omakase.

He surely makes great food. However, with my very limited knowledge, most of dishes he made, don't really look "chinese" enough, at least, not the traditional style. Or, could be just me, don't know all the "styles" (different within in each region) yet.
