I have contemplated building an iPad app to watch badminton games for more than a year. I finally got around to work on it and am happy to release Badminton TV today for FREE in the App Store. I am a badminton fanatics. I play a lot and I watch a lot. It is a huge pain to find these professional matches all over the Internet, YouTube, and other channels. I simply want to watch games. Badminton TV does just that. It shows the latest tournaments in reverse chronological order. If you tap on a tournament, you see all the draws. If you tap on a draw, you see a familiar draw table. When there is a video for a match available, the scores turns into a link. When you click the link, you can watch the match video. See more Badminton TV screenshots. There are also some nice features in Badminton TV. If you are interested in a match but do not have the time to watch it now, you can bookmark it and easily find it later. You can also share a video to your Twitter followers and Facebook friends. Or you can just send a text message or email to a friend. If you own an iPad, iPhone, or iPod touch, you can download Badminton TV for FREE from the App Store now. It is really nice! You won’t be disappointed.
There is no Android version, at least not yet. I want to see how people respond first and then look to improve on it. If it is well received and there is a great demand for an Android version, I may do something about it.
Even though it's just linking BWF youtube and TS sites together, it makes it simpler to watch the tourney videos. Two thumbs up!
Yes, I think it is much easier. I am glad you like it. If you guys know of any sites with match videos, please let me know. I will add them to the database. All you need to do to see new videos is just launch the app. Also, the Sudirman Cup matches are blocked in the US. Do you want me to link to just the highlights in the app? Or to wait for other full match video sources become available? Also, do you guys like the articles in my badminton blog? I try to write about the sports from a deeper perspective to help players improve their games. Feel free to leave any comments so I can improve my writings.
Nice app, rayvinly. Does it show live BWF streams as well? That would be awesome. hahasportstream.blogspot.com would be one of the good candidates for live streams too.
Thank you for the support You guys are awesome. Badminton TV has only been released for 3 days (The 3rd day isn't over yet). There have already been 10k API requests to my server. People are using it a lot. The server can handle a million requests - no worries. You will notice I already added the Djarum Indonesia Open 2013. I will add more videos as they become available. I've also noticed the tournaments are not displayed in order (newest first). I will fix this in the next update. Someone pointed out the videos are difficult to see in the draw tables. I agree. In the next update, I will make the videos more obvious when you browse the draw tables. khoai, online streaming is not going to work at this point. Flash does not work on iPad and iPhone.
please add Coaching Video: http://www.youtube.com/playlist?list=PL1132B45B30FD92D3 and Badminton Magazine http://www.youtube.com/playlist?list=PLA7ZcagI0frBT1ezFBZtANBOECgp5tIqM
Or how about Complete Badminton Training with Zhao Jianhua & Xiao Jie. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=QaHk70PVgr0&list=PLEBDE1E42B3A9BC37
Update for Badminton TV has been submitted pcll99 and visor, I think these links will be helpful to users who want to watch some videos to get coaching tips that they can translate onto the court to improve their games. However, there already exists playlists for these videos. So I am not sure if it adds too much value to Badminton TV. It is just as easy to go to these links in your mobile web browser to watch these. Do you guys really want these videos to be in Badminton TV? What do others think? UPDATE: I submitted an update, pending approval, which will fix the tournament ordering bug on the iPad and make the video links more obvious in the draw tables. I will update when it becomes available in the App Store.
Personally, I like that your app has one straightforward purpose/function. You chose the match, you click the button, you watch the game. No clutter. Any of we badminton nuts who are willing to watch a video of a game where the outcome is already known (heck, we actually click on the score!) is a smart enough badminton nut to know where to finde coaching videos separately. That is just my one humble vote. Keep it simple.
Thanks for sharing the info about the useful app at BC. I don't use any iOS device, but i'll share this info with friends who do. I hope in future you will develop it into droid platform as well... cheers!
Badminton TV Version 1.1 Fidget That's what I think - to keep it simple and focused, as I imagine users spend most time in the video player. kelana Thanks for spreading the word. What's New in Version 1.1 - Added new videos for Indonesia Open 2013 and Singapore Open 2013 - Fixed tournament ordering for iPad - Added refresh button to retrieve new tournaments for iPad. No need to quit the app to refresh new tournaments - Made video links more obvious, bigger and greener
Okay not sure if I'm doing something wrong but when I click on the thumbnails on my iPad, it takes me to the roster and not the video. What am I doing wrong? I can't watch any videos with this app. ***Edit: nvm figured it out....so only the green highlighted scored are video linked right?
I just added the BWF World Championships tournament and some of the first round matches. But unfortunately these don't work in the USA because of media rights. However, if you set up your iPad or iPhone to use a proxy in a foreign country like the UK, you can watch these without problems. In the future, I will look into integrating a proxy feature in Badminton TV itself. For now, these videos will still benefit many who are not in a restricted country.
