So I have a mx60 which was 86g stock grip no string. 95g gripped up how I like it and strung. 80g string no grip! Technically a 4u then? It's a 3u apparently but it's great. Also g3 grip. I'm arranging to buy a spare (had to strip my car of all her nice mods) that is the higher end of 3u and a G2. Allowing for maybe 5g more over grip to compensate I made this 110g monster. Test swings feel good! Is this a fair indication of how my spare might feel? Better for smashing and singles no doubt
If you overload the grip you won't get any extra smash power. 95g for MX60 gripped and strung is good weight. Extra weight only makes it more sluggish and potentially less powerful. If your game is doubles you might not want that Also, if you get a spare, you would want that to be as close as possible to the weight and balance of your existing one so you won't feel much difference if having to swap in the middle of a match.
Cheers. I've won and lost matches based on having a slight variation in the same rackets. At a low level though! I don't follow how I'd lose power! swings plenty fast. Don't want to turn this into another smash speed discussion thread...
I would recommend finding something you like and sticking with it. If your budget allows for it, the best option is to have two (or more) rackets that are exactly the same: Same model Same "version" (e.g. both 3u or both 4u, not one of each) Same strings Same string tension Same grip thickness Same grip This helps you be more consistent. Restringing frequently helps too, because you never get into a situation where one racket is crisp and the other is soggy.
I do this deliberately to have one for plastics/old feathers and one for crisp new feathers (matches) per my comment above. Also relates to my post re slice server, had to use the softer one!
Actually that is a good reason. I flat-out refuse to play with plastics nowadays, but I used to do exactly the same thing. Okay, so you let your opponent dicate your string tension. Hmmm...
for the life of me i can't tell the difference between feather and plastic besides its pace, they just fly differently i can sense it, but i can't put it into words...but i generally use a racket with strings that are frail so i can try to break it while playing with plastic since the games are less serious.

On topic, if I'm lucky enough to go ahead and get this spare I'll report back, but I think difference is smaller than I first thought.
Normally when you clear or lift to the rear court, feather will have a steeper drop compared to plastics. So when you think it's going long, it ends up on the line with feathers...
