    A few facts:

    • The 2013 edition of CBSL will run from September 28, 2013 to June 5, 2014.
    • The match dates are set to avoid conflict with BWF SSP, SSF, SS and GPG events.
    • Twelve teams in total, including all ten CBSL teams from last season, plus new comers Xiamen (Chen Long?) and DongGuan (Lee Chong Wei?)
    • Regular season: double round robin in two groups.
    • Play-off: top two from each group to decide 1-4 in knock-out format; then 3-3, 4-4, 5-5 for other placements; last two teams relegate to the First Division.
    • In mixed team format with five matches: both MS/WS, two of MD/WD/XD, 3-on-3 (2M1F).
    • Before each official tie, there is a one-game MD match played by amateurs representing the opposing teams. The result from the amateur games will serve as tie breakers, if needed.
    • The top three players from each team must be present at home and away games to participate in player introduction, live entertainment, or competition.
    • Matches will be recorded by CCTV to be available on CNTV or QQ CBSL Official Website.

One more thing to mention: all games will play to 11 points (15 points maximum).

In prior seasons, 11-point games are played only when one team won three matches already. In the new season, all games are now 11 points. Presumably, this is done to cut down the total time, in length and in variation to please TV broadcasters.

On 5th Oct is the Lin Dan vs Lee CW clash between BAYI and Dongguan New Century City (not Guangdong, my mistake in the Lin Dan thread).

And this part explains why Lee CW (and I believe for Intanon Ratchanok as well), apart from the benefits of world-class coaching, wants to play in the CBSL :

Besides good prize money, there are other advantages to playing in leagues as long as players know how to fit it in into their schedule.
“As the world No. 1 player, I am sought after. I have played in several leagues now. This is a platform for me to promote the game,” said Chong Wei, who also participated in the Indonesian and Indian leagues this year.
“This is my fourth appearance in the China league. The quality of matches is outstanding and I can see the standard of their juniors too.

it is good that the Chinese dare to experiment some innovations the others (including BWF) didn't dare to try: 11pt games and 3v3 matches.

yet i think they should at least try best-of-5 matches for the 11pt games.

CL commented after his first match with 11pt games against WZM that due to the 11pt game, he need to play a more attacking game coz u will reach a game point every winning 10 pts. therefore u hv to concentrate on every pt.

i think this could make the match more spectacular. let's see how this works in the long run. (at least this 11pt earn them back the major TV broadcastor CCTV for this edition).

I read that this is the first time CTTV5 is giving TV coverage (probably on condition the matches are shorter); not only that, they are also sponsoring every club RMB500K.

As for the 11-point scoring system, a few players said they are still unable to get used to it. In fact, Lin Dan is now calling for the restoration of the 21-point system saying shorter matches lower the entertainment/excitement value and before the players could settle in the match is already over.
