hahaha that's a good idea, but you do know that the shuttle flies at you from both directions...
04-22-2007, 05:26 PM #512
...sure, but the lead time is longer, if the shuttle comes from the opponents, i think...

i've seen someone get caught out of place at the net, and he took a smash in the eye. these aren't newbs either, A-level players, so smashes at that level aren't exactly slow.
needless to say, he ended up in the hospital and after some work and time, he's back to playing jsut fine... but a lot more cautious.
goggles as much as any other protection and safety equipment are all matters of precaution and reduction in possibility of occurance.
they obviously do not prevent things from happening.
getting hit by racquets we can't prevent other than with sound judgement and common sense. even goggles won't save us.
only full motorcycle lid, with a lowered visor. those pudding cup lids or bicycle helmets won't cut it.

wow, in all my life, i have never seen badminton as a dangerous sport. maybe when the guys play and they smash like mad, then the danger of getting a shuttle at high speed in the eye can happen. but i play with ladies and our smash are quite mild. no need for precaution. but accidents have happened before. on the topic of badminton bag contents, i wish i have even half of what those guys with lots of equipment have. har har har

Oh, these things happen, alright. At least to me.. >.>
Last year, when I played mixed doubles during practice at my school, the girl I was playing with, like most of them, kept trying to get the hit all the time, so they're always on my side. It's quite annoying. Anyway, she was going back for a hit, and it was clearly coming towards me, and hit me square in the right eye with her racket. (I was on the left side of the court and I believe she was left-handed---she's not on the team this year) I was temporarily blinded and it hurt a lot.. Anyone wanna get me some goggles? Lol.

sorry meant to say: do you not find the goggles/glasses falling off alot?? they don't look like they would stay on very well when going for big jump smashes!! Even my headband sometimes flies off when I unleash the jump hehe...

the net man did a poor net return, and it was attacked, pushing the shuttle back.
his partner was rushed and screwed up the return and put it half court.
the opponents capitalized on this half court return with a hard smash.

ahh that makes more sense....

when i play with someone who wants to hog all the shot, meaning she goes for every shot even when the shuttle aims for me, i tend to be defensive and get out of her way. even when we tell them to not go rioting in the court, they tend to run all over the place and swinging their racket like there's no tomorrow. so when i play with these type of people, i tend to stay out of their way. i pay more attention to them than the shuttle. safety first! as for the smash in front of the net, so far i have been successful in defending myself when the shuttle comes straight at me. i just twist my body and let my back get the shot.

Here is my bag...

Is it something like nudist badminton??? You only wear shoes
05-10-2007, 04:39 AM #526
nude badminton would hurt real bad, especially if the shuttle is going at full speed in a jump smash heading to very sensitive regions. i guess that means he wears the clothes from home and never put extra clothes in the bag.
