Five matches will be played in court 1 (TV court) : 01) Reika Kakiiwa/Miyuki Maeda (JPN) v Christina Pedersen/Kamilla Rytter Juhl (DEN) 02) Tontowi Ahmad/Lilyana Natsir (INA) v Xu Chen/Ma Jin (CHN) 03) Wang Yihan (CHN) v Ratchanok Intanon (THA) 04) Lee Yong Dae/Yoo Yeon Seong (KOR) v Mathias Boe/Carsten Mogensen (DEN) 05) Lee Chong Wei (MAS) v Du Pengyu (CHN)
Yup, h2h favour to former world champion, 6-0 to Wang Yihan. Agree, WD match is potential to be long duration, that's why the organizer put it as first match
Interesting Clash in Semifinals: 01) Tontowi Ahmad/Lilyana Natsir (INA) v Xu Chen/Ma Jin (CHN). The head to head is 4-6, but the Indonesian pairs has won the last two in tough three sets. The winner of this match will be the new World #2 in the upcoming ranking published after Denmark Open. Will Xu/Ma finally get their first win over the INA pairs in 2013? 02) Wang Yihan (CHN) v Ratchanok Intanon (THA). The forwer world champion vs. The reigning world champion; who will prevail? The head to head is 6-0 for the former world champion. Note: If WYH win the tournament, she will be the new #4, replacing Saina Nehwal. 03) Lee Yong Dae/Yoo Yeon Seong (KOR) v Mathias Boe/Carsten Mogensen (DEN). LYD/JJS has 12-5 record against the Dane, LYD/KSH has 1-1 record against the Dane, but KSH/YYS has 0-6 record against the Dane. Based on the tournament history I checked, YYS never win against the Dane, can LYD support YYS to get the first win over the Danish combination? We shall see 04) Zhang Nan/Zhao Yunlei (CHN) v Joachim Fischer Nielsen/Christina Pedersen (DEN). The head to head 7-6 for the Chinese combination, and they have won the last three matches, all in 2013. Can the Danish pairs finally achieve their first win in 2013 over the reigning London gold medalist in home soil? 05) Lee Chong Wei (MAS) v Du Pengyu (CHN). I know the head to head is 8-1 for the world #1, but it was hard bitting contest in the last 4 meetings between these two, and Du Pengyu prevail in one of those. Can Du prevail, or it will be LCW/CL in the final? 06) Wang Shixian(CHN) v Sung Ji Hyun (KOR). The head to head is 3-2 for the Chinese, world #7. But the last meeting was won by the KOR at home, Korean Open earlier this year in two straight games. Will WSX worth to be given a WO by her teammate LXR last round and win the semifinal encounter against the Korean? It will not be easy, but it will be a hard contest.
An uphill task for Owi/Butet in order to win another SSP title in Europe (apart from the 2 AE titles). They practically have to repeat the WC Final result+face either Zhang/Zhao or the Danes (which they failed to beat in the recent 2 years). Logically, if the INA pair can get past Xu/Ma (this will be yet another 3-setter), then, they might prefer to face Zhang/Zhao (whom they have beaten 3 times in a row since last year).
Wang Yihan's uneven form makes it a tough call. Her ability to pile on the pressure and keep tightening the screws until the opponent is near to breaking point is not evident lately. And a bit surprising that her fitness is not like before. In spite of the H2H 6-0 in favour of WYH, I'm clueless to predict the outcome, esp when IR is on a high after grabbing the WC , looking so relaxed and confident though the pressure of IR's newly acquired status is to be expected.
Thanks to JOJ yesterday who woke up Lee CW just in time, otherwise if the same thing were to happen to Lee CW today against DuPY as with JOJ, a shocking outcome could be in the offing.
One of the two commentators in Chen Long's match is so ignorant. "Chen Long and Lee Chong Wei are the two best players in the world." Out of the last 6+2 world/Olympic championships, Lin Dan got 7 out 8 and just beat both Chen & Lee in 2013 World Championships. Yet he still gives out those stupid comments.
Couldn't find a livestream for Ct 2 , the non-TV court, anybody? TIA. Just found it, thanks . http://www.kakibara.com/watch/live/...ber-19-2013/badminton-yonex-denmark-open.html
Excellent SungJiHyun. She had a tough gruelling match yesterday with Saina Nehwal whereas the opponent shixian had full day rest . But she could not utilised the rest she has got.. what a pity.. Where is that obnoxious chinese fan who used to throw punches on indians and indian players especially Nehwal yesterday?? Twisting his own knickers??
Sung Ji Hyun won, the Korean grabs final ticket 21-19 / 21-14 against the fresher opponent, Wang Shixian.

Good on SJH - she already has one SSP title this year; might this be her second? Wang Shixian...why is she still in the national team? Her game is so one-dimensional it's unbelievable.
