I keep trying thinner grip size and finding I get more power and control but it is less comfortable on my elbow. is this like people trying higher string tension and suffering from doing it wrong, pushing to far? I wonder if I should stick with it and learn not to grip too hard, assuming that is the issue. maybe just need thicker grip for plastics - does anyone else do this? either that, or its thrown my timing and the miss hits are causing discomfort. racket head felt crazy fast just now! good old meteor, how could I ever have considered selling you?
Yes you're right in assuming it can cause elbow or forearm pain. If you have a grip that is too small for you, you will find that your hand would need to clench a tighter "fist" (even if your hand seems relaxed to you) just to hold the racquet, to stop the racquet falling out of your hands. In doing so, your forearm muscles does not get to relax fully between shots - which is very important to prevent injury.
