    Hi,

have neen playing Badminton in the same club for the past 11 years and the floors have been varnished every 1-2 years. Gradually, the courts have got slippier over the past few years but were manageable, this year though they are like ice. Was wondering if anyone has had this problem and if so how to solve it ... Fell like going at it with a brillo pad right now :D Thanks !

anything related to coke, fanta, sprite, etc...etc that has sugar in it, would very much help in slippery floor. But better mope the floor after use or will full of ants afterwards.

    Sweep the court from dust
    sweep your shoes from dust
make your shoes a little bit wet with a wet towel.

That's pretty much all the tricks I know :)

A floor I play on every so often is like this. The above tips are the best, usually the floor isn't swept often enough throughout the day which causes the problem.

Only advice I could add is Yonex trainers are grippiest trainers i've come across and i've tried Nike, Adidas and Asics on the same floor.

I recently played a match on a slippery floor and although we won I disliked playing. Courts with virtually no grip are unsuitable for a dynamic sport like badminton but some players cope better than others - much depends on your movement technique. One remedy I use is to lay a wet towel alongside the court and every one or two points tread over it to maintain grip.

An addendum to the above - I've just played another league match on a floor totally unsuitable for badminton. Even after treading on a damp towel, during a rally my shoe grip disappeared and it was impossible to play at my usual level. Evidently my movement technique is such that I need a grippy floor - but isn't this the surface on which badminton should be played? Very dynamic players are at a disadvantage on slippery floors although some people do manage with them. What's the secret? When you look at tennis, any hint of damp grass and the match is off!

Maybe we should create a new category of dust-court badminton. ;)

there is a court locally that is like that. the people who manages it have tried all sorts of tricks (including cleaning very often and all the way to treating it with chemicals designed for those floor) to make it better but it remains one of the most slippery courts in the area. adding to it that the flooring was this brown mud colors, i have seen people referring it as Roland Garros.

when I do go there to play, there is usually already a damp cloth or napkins set up on the court side. it is just a matter of stepping on it every few rallies.

What is the court flooring made of? I can't imagine not being able to correct the situation.

some professional synthetic material that was poured into the surface.

i don't understand either. the same flooring material used in different locations around the area don't have that issue. only in this place where it is like a ice skating rink.

and that the court is hard as concrete don't help either.

i bruised my rib the other week when i slipped at home (long story...), went to play in bintang, no problem. went to play there, ouch. every step hurts. the harsh impact traveled all the way up my body.

I wonder if it could have been an improper mixture or something that got into it before it fully cured? Interesting story though.

    hard to say.

the said location was previously occupied by another badminton club. they had a different type of flooring that is also professionally installed. they have the same slippery issue. it seems that there is an excess amount of moisture in that location. so bad that in cold humid days they have to shutdown the facilities as it was deemed too dangerous. same has happened in the current flooring.
