So looks like they'll be covering all 4 courts.

It looks like there is no picture for the service line at the front court, wonder if that is on another computer not in view or if they are deciding to not include, which would be very strange.

Probably with service lines, the umpire is close enough to call it more decisively and authoritatively, hopefully without error.

Hopefully, always looks like one of the hardest to call, due to it being seen from an angle and usually the player is over the top of it under his legs trying to leave it.

LCW was the first player to use the review system and he won the point back.

    Lol...

It was so anti climatic... especially since there's no display on the giant screen for the audience and players to see for themselves. Where was the "excitement and drama" that BWF was referring to?

Li Xuerui has just used it against Saina Nehwal and got it right.

I'm quite disappointed though, that it doesn't show on-screen or being shown to the players...

And also, it doesn't seem to be a computer generated call like Tennis, but rather a person behind a computer screen and giving a thumbs up or down to the umpire...

To me, thats stupid because the person behind the screen "can" be biased as well as to a line-judge and because its decided by human, means mistakes can still occur.

Why can't it be computer-generated like the hawk-eye of Tennis? I'm sure the technology won't be that difficult to design... get camera on the side to computerise the shuttlecock and line.
Show-mo the video and if the shuttlecock touches the line, then computer generate "IN" signal. I'm sure it's possible, just need the brainy guy behind the hawkeye to design this for badminton.

Because seriously, this IS a good step. But we can definitely do better.

Kim K.J and Kim S.R challenged a call that the Indonesians hit called in by the line-judge, which was apparently "rejected".

But, a replay was given right after a rally and it was definitely OUT.

This is one example of how stupid it is. And also, challenge accepted/rejected? You're dealing with 95% Asians with no English background. I think "IN" or "OUT" are more simpler terminologies.

Yeah nobody knows whats going on, it seems the brains at bwf have not prepared for how the situations would play out at all, nobody knows what the @"$% is going on. It's totally shocking, but a perfect example of how to be as rubbish at your job as possible.

Thumbs up/down means what? could mean yes challenge was right/wrong or line umpire was right/wrong? Means nothing to the audience or the players, just have to wait for the score to be called before anyone knows.

I watched that Kim/Kim one and I am not sure what was rejected? was it the overule? the challenge itself? I have no Idea.

Im worried about this turning into a fiasco. Is it an issue of not enough brains and an insufficent budget? In terms of trialing scenarious I thought BWF had already tested this system at a previous event?

You don't need any budget for the umpire to have set statements explaining exactly what's happening, even if it is not projected on screen. The tournament ref signals to the umpire need to be looked at as well they even looked a little confused

"Challenge made by x or x&y the shuttle was called in/out" the umpire should state
wait for tournament ref to make decision then
umpire states "challenge successful/unsuccesful, (state score), X has ? challenges remaining

Easy Even a child could plan this.

Yep, just make it straight forward.

Like, "video review shows that it was in/out,
challenge was correct/incorrect". How hard is that?
