anyone remembered a former Chinese ladies national player with last name Rong (or Yung in Cantonese)? she said she was in the Chinese team from 1972-76. i ran into her in a local college gym tonight.
Maybe Xu Rong but she was playing after 1982.Players before 1976 not part of IBF and nobody knows them except Tang ,Hou and Fang Kai Xiang.
I remember her name is Hsu Rong who was a member of the Chinese national squad. She played single for a while but turned to women's double later. I can't remember what championship she had won. She had been overshined by Li Lingwei and Han Aiping in the singles and Lin Ying and Wu Dickzi in the doubles.
Read somewhere that Xu Rong is living in Australia now. Saw her first time playing in HK back in 1979.
i think that's a different Rong. the person i met playing in the early to mid 70s, Xu Rong looks like is from an later era. kwun
So many in Australia, Viver- Zheng Yu Li, Zhang Ai ling, Chen Jang jie, and they are teaching mandarin. Is Yao Ximing still a canadian coach? Wudixi is married in Indonesia.
Kwun, would you like to have an image of China,s 1976 badminton team ? It is a group photo complete with names, is your mailbox big enough to accept?
you mean sending it to me via email? sure. just send it... if it blows up, we will figure something else up..
OK Kwun, open it with ACD see. I think the person you mention is one of the pretty ones called Li Ying Rong.I have a shelf full of magazines and souvenour programs passed down to me, from the 60's, let me know if you want to host them somewhere, I could send you a CD of it.
Yes, Yao Xi Ming is still coaching badminton in a club. Met him once and chatted a little bit - a colleague of mine was his team mate in China. I once met another guy by chance, older probably 50 + years old, and badminton was our topic and guess what: he told me his name is Tanoto, played for Indonesia in the 60's in doubles. Ever heard about him? There are many former Chinese players/coaches in Australia: Han Ai Ping, Anna Lao, Sze Ning On ...
The only former player that I have met in Canada is Dominic Soong in Canada, he was ranked as high as #2 in the world in mens doubles for Malaysia in the mid 1970's. AF
Yes Viver, Yao Ximing delivered winning point for China in 82 Thomas cp, he must be proud of it.I am still trying to get a video copy of that tournament. The Indonenesian could have been a reserve. Dominic Soong and Cheah H C took Tjun Tjun /johan Wahudi and Christian / Chandra to 3 games in 76 Thomas cp, I am trying to make video of that tour.I still meet with Dom. teamates occasionaly although I am of younger set.
I friend of mine had a copy of some '82 Thomas Cup. Watched Rudy Hartono vs Luan Jian. Quality was not that great since is a copy from a copy of the original. It's than nothing and at least have a chance to see how Hartono played (even though not in his prime). This weekend if my friend have time I'll be watching the 2nd game: Han Jian vs Liem Swie King.
Viver would you be so kind as to arrange to make a copy of the two matches?Just give me your Email and I will send you for your trouble a couple of matches you always wanted to see,the whole list even which rivals that of mr. Yves. I have been tracking down that video for 1 year, picture sharpness no issue.
I see if my friend is interested in this. The issue is the video is in PAL system and there's only 1 machine and also the reason why I have to go to his place to watch. I'll let you know later.
Hi Birdbrain, Spoke to my friend and said he is not going to make a copy for now. He knows what you feel right now and asked to understand that is the only copy he has. He had bad experiences lending his much precious badminton tapes to his friends who 'lost' them later. Some as old during the 70's where Hou Jia Chang and Tong Hsien Fu played, a final between Yu Iu Tong vs Liem Swie King. He mentioned that he intends to go back to his hometown later this year and will bring with him an extra VCR (multi system) which is much cheaper there. He will then be able to make a copy for you if you are still interested.
Thanks very much Viver., you're a saviour. I also have same experience with bad borrowers. Tell your friend VCR's cost as little as US $100 in Asia. The person must be associated with China's squad, How did he get videos of Tang and Hou, video wasn,t commercialised yet.Don't forget to sneak in somewhere yours or his email so I can send you what I have to keep you all interested in future swops, he won't regret ! Of course I am interested, what else does he have?
