Default Husband & Wife - Is a successful partnership possible?

Just got hit by my wife in the forehead today and dare not to say a word. Normally I don't play with her but I made a mistake today and paid for it. I have witnessed a ton of arguments between husband and wife during the matches and after, I myself vow not to partner with my wife ever because of the consequences I must face after the match. The usual results are as follow: no lunch and no dinner, sleeping in the sofa, listening to what I had done wrong for the last 10 years. Please anybody, tell me I am not alone.

I met my wife playing badminton 34years ago, age 14. Played together at school, and on and off over the years, always at the same club, but different leagues/divisions. We have now played together now constantly, in mixed leagues, for probably the last 6 years, and yes we have our moments but try to keep it calm on court. We try not to take it home with us, but sometimes I am a little over enthusiastic on court in wanting to win and maybe a little harsh in my comments, so it can get a little taught! About four years ago, I managed to acquire a lovely cut on my eyebrow as my Mrs. cut across the front of me, from my left, as I stepped in from sides to take a shot at the front, her racquet went through my racquet and embedded nicely in my eyebrow/forehead!! No big deal. But apart from that we both enjoy playing together, and to be honest we do quite well. I know and can understand that some couples cannot do it, as it can cause too much aggro!!

if you ever plan to play with your spouse, get one of these:

    Name: 91qqvUpmMZL._SL1500_.jpg

    what to do with it?

tape it over your mouth, and don't take off until the match is over. it is thin, soft and elastic. won't cause much discomfort or any side effect except for the occasional difficulty in breathing.

Your wife knew what she was doing....it's a signal to tell you to turn around and face the right direction.

And it's kinda cool how Mr and Mrs Adcock, and Zhang /Zhao play together so well. You can almost feel the love on the court.

I was behind her when she did a short serve. A lift over her head and I was ready to hit. I still don't know what had happened next. I guess she suddenly thought that she was Super woman. I believed she jumped and swing at the same time. She missed the bird of course but she got me. Lucky for me she missed my eyes. On our way home, not a word was exchanged re the incident.

If they could change partner, I believe they would. Husband and wife work together is a no no. If working together, the wife usually is the dominant one.

It's better not to bring it up. Just show her that you aren't bothered about it.

Boy! If something like this were to happen to me ever, my wife would just start crying and apologising. Then she'd take it as a sign that she shouldn't play and would never again play with me even if I'd insist!
And ya, I'd be treated like an absolute king at home for the next couple of days at least...!

It could be worst if it is your wife that's just got hit by you and you couldn't give a good explanation.
Given a choice, I rather be the one that got hit.

I must admit I have hit my wife loads of times with the shuttle during play! By accident (of course!). Apologised, and once she had said she was ok, just got on with it.

Actually I find it quite interesting how different couples react differently, the hitter and the hittee response.

    There's the :

    1. Let's not talk abt it and pretend it didn't happen.
    2. The hittee blames the hitter. But only if the hittee is the wife.
    3. The hitter blames the hittee. Especially if the hitter is the wife.
    4. They both blame each other.

It sure brings up any underlying psychodynamic issues to be sure.

Apart from badminton and it also explain what we have discussing above.I notice an interesting scenario when a group of friends gather together, 9 out of 10 husbands have their mouth shut while their wives freely voicing their opinions. I myself included. I trust that the one husband who dare to speak out must has to face dire consequences on the way home.

She must be a better player than you.
