Hey guys. I just played a singles match and lost to a very aggresive player. I tried to keep the shuttle low, cause if i lift, he'll smash immediately. I need tips on how to beat this kind of player
uhh very broad question ;p but ill try to answer non-ambiguously. Uhh Okay, If hes Slow: You can always just add disguise to your shots, so he wont get into position fast enough to hammer down the smashes (as that seems to be the main problem as ur mentioning). If hes fast and aggressive, you probably will need to slow the pace down by doing some slow pace disguised drop shots, and if you choose to lift make sure its deep in his court. Generally speaking, I personally get rid of aggressive players, by giving them an easy high serve to the corner, so 90% of the time theyll play a straight smash, cover it, repeat a few times and then theyll change start as they wont want to waste energy... but thats a lot more of a gamble / dependant on various things.
learn to be more aggressive by hitting harder and being more consistent and move around the court faster.
be accurate with your shots - four corners, cross court blocking - make them think twice about attacking! Use attacking clear as much as possible when forced to clear
If you can beat him in a game where there are no smashes, then it's most likely your footwork and positioning. You might just be out of position while defending his smashes. If you lose in a game with no smashes, then he's just more experienced. Eventually you will win a few if you continue to play players better than you.
beat them at their own game and fight fire with fire. Or improve your defense and tire them out - rally and counterattack
increase your speed consistently. You can try it for the first 5 points to see if it works. Then it is a matter if you can last with the speed. Good luck. alternatively more low shots or drive of course.
Improve your defence to deal with his aggressive plays. If you had the defence of Lee Chong Wei even if you smash like a 5 year old you can beat your opponent because you can cover the whole court efficiently. Aim to improve speed so you can run around, awareness to increase your reaction speed in order to defend, and practice like mad.
If he's a very aggresive player who goes full out, no mercy on you, the best method is to pressure him. Hit into the corners of the court and as near to the net as you possibly can. Make him run till he can't focus entirely on his shots.
Believe it or not , flick serve , clear , lifts are very useful against these opponents. Why? Flicks make him run to the end court losing him energy , if he smashes , it will do no good as the shuttle is farther from you thus making it easier to defend. Do attack clears as your opponent usually turns these into a clear (usually up to the mid court) then you can just smash it. Lifts , very useful too . Be sure to lift as far as to the rear court , and not to the mid court because if you do it up to midcourt only , he will smash and it will be harder to defend. He will soon tire out and you can gain the upper hand. Take note that my opinions on these are base on normal smashes , and not jump smash. Goodluck
If u mean by 'agressive' is good reaction and fast footwork, almost no solution except improving ur game and shots. But if u mean he is just rushing for shuttle, do lots of hold and deceptive shots, don't let him running in straight forward lines. Toss him running in V^>< or back n forth, which is very hard to do for rushers as they will have 'recoil' after rushing lol.
Agreed with latecomer n visor, his opponent is quite a bit better than him. Singles smashes that are difficult to defend are due to insufficient depth/height of clears/shots. Either that or his opponent has very quick footwork and good anticipations of his shots.
