    ==============================================

i hope by having everybody introduce ourselves in the Introduction forum will make everybody more at home. we chat to each other everyday without knowing much about each other, with a small introduction, we will feel more connected.

so go forth, tell us something about yourself!

    ==============================================

Therefore, I shall introduce myself. :):):)

I thought I should introduce myself at our CCC Badminton Club forum site. Why? Because the majority of BCers wishing to know me better are CCCers.

I have much to say: Therefore, I shall make several posts to introduce myself.

    awesome philosophy.

staying healthy is the best thing that one can do to oneself. most people in this world work too hard and worry about getting rich. it is useless to have all the wealth in the world if you are not healthy enough to enjoy it.

however, if you are healthy, then the best thing to do is to do something to help others in this world. it doesn't have to be in terms of money, it can be in terms of knowledge, in terms of a helping hand, or just a positive influence on others.

it is much easier said than done though.

At Petaling Jaya, I attended La Salle PJ school.

I, Hoh Hon Leong, participated in many sports. Being good at sports, I represented my school in many events at inter-school games.

    Inter-School Athletics (Track & Field):
    * First, it was the High Jump event (being the tallest of my classmates :)).
    * Later, moved on to Long Jump and Triple Jump.
    * Was quick in running, therefore was selected for the 100m and 200m sprints (and for the 4x100m and 4x400m relay teams).

    Inter-School Sports:
    * Soccer (my favourite sport then)

For secondary school, I attended St. John's Institution, Kuala Lumpur. There, I thought I should try more technical and tactical sports.

    Inter-School Athletics (Track & Field):
    * First, it was at Discus. Later, participated in Javelin and Shot Putt.
    * Running was moved to longer distances:- 800m and 1500m.

    Inter-School Sports:
    * Soccer (still my favourite sport then)
    * Volleyball

I didn't get selected for the Badminton team - The top 4 players at St. John's were too strong for me. :):):)

In Sydney, Australia, I was known as Chris Hoh.

I attended the Macquarie University. There was a nice sports hall there, but they needed someone to start a Badminton club.

Hendra-G and I took on the job. We slowly, but surely, gathered more and more students and staff to play Badminton. We did it by putting info on noticeboards at all campus buildings.

University staff member, Julia-T, came in to help. She represented for us (MUBC - Macquarie University Badminton Club) at all University Sports Association meetings.

Later, I was awarded a lifetime membership of the Macquarie University Sports Association (because of my contribution in starting the Badminton club there).

While in Sydney, I got really interested in participating in Badminton activities.

The University of New South Wales Badminton Club was the strongest club in Sydney at that time. I registered myself as a club member there. I was entered in their many inter-clubs league matches.

One day, John-W, the president of the University of New South Wales Badminton Club, told me that Badminton Australia is conducting a course for people wishing to become Badminton coaches. I attended the program and became a qualified coach.

    Badminton coaching

    .
As a qualified coach, SBA (Sydney Badminton Association) asked me to become their association coach and their players' grader. It's an assignment that made me visiting all Badminton clubs in Sydney (to coach players and/or to grade their players' skill levels).

I was also asked to give tips in their SBA monthly issues of printed leaflets.

Later, NSWBA (New South Wales Badminton Association) wanted to form a coaching branch in its activities (to promote Badminton). I was inducted in their inaugural meeting. There, I met up with many great people - one is June Bevan (Our Australian Under-17 Inter-States Tournament is named after her - The June Bevan Trophy).
    http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/June_Bevan

Then, NSWBA needed a coach for their Under-21 team. I was asked to take up that job. I did it and enjoyed it. At that time, Mark-H was the No.1 player in Australia. He said to me "You conduct the coaching, I conduct the physical training". :):):)

I was also asked to coach at my Macquarie University Badminton Club, in which I did and enjoyed every moment of it.

BTW, a great Australian player was one of the instructors at the coacing program in which I took.

Later, I was transferred to Wollongong, New South Wales.

There, I became a registerd member of IBA (Illawarra Badminton Association).
    http://www.truelocal.com.au/business/illawarra-badminton-association/wollongong

The active Badminton family of players then (in Wollongong) was the Smart family. They asked me to continue coaching the Under-21 team for New South Wales (to be conducted there).

Indeed, I did. And I enjoyed every moment of it.

By the way, while living in Wollongong, I managed to become their association champion there; defeating Ignatius-G. He was their champion for 10 years in a row (I believe). Even today, I feel so sorry that I was the one to break his run of the championship.

Specialise in only 2 sports each year

    .
You are correct; My school and myself were told to specialise in only 2 sports each year. The sports that I listed above are for different years.

When I was at John's Institution, Kuala Lumpur, Wong Kim Loong was the fastest sprinter (100m and 200m) in Malaysian schools. He was awarded as the best athlete. I came in second with my Discus and Javelin throws. :):):)

At St. John's Institution, our Badminton team was very strong.
    http://encyclopedia.thefreedictionary.com/St.+John's+Institution,+Kuala+Lumpur

Our strongest rival was always the Victoria Institution team.
    http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Victoria_Institution

At my time, Victoria Institution gave scholarships to excellent sports students. They attracted many top Badminton players, including the famous Sidek brothers, who all later played for the Malaysian National teams.

Later, I was transferred to Newcastle, Australia.

There, I became a registered player for the University of Newcastle Badminton Club.

Played well there in Newcastle, and later won their Newcastle Badminton Closed tournament.

Later, I was transferred to Melbourne, Australia.

When I first arrived, I became a registered player at the Monash University Badminton Club. It was a very strong club, with many top players (including some international players) playing there.

It was a surprise to me (and many players) that I won their University Badminton Closed tournament in my first year there.

Also, in Melbourne, I played in almost all Badminton clubs. Badminton is a very popular sport (compared to all the other cities in Australia).

Some players at these locations might remember me :):):):
    * Wheelers Hill Badminton Club (participated in their home-and-away weekly matches).
    * Albert Park Badminton Club (the oldest Badminton club in Melbourne).
    * Doncaster Templestowe Badminton Association (a great place to meet Asian players).
    * Wesley Badminton Club (still a club member there).
    * and with many other private groups of players having their own private sessions.

    Damn it. :(:(:(

While posting about myself and thinking about Nelson Mandela's passing away, I have totally forgotten to attend an appointment to play tonight at the new Badminton venue in Melbourne (Badminton Connect).

The organisers/builders of Badminton Connect facility know me well. My apologies to them that I need to skip attending their session tonight.
