Hello. I am wondering whether there are any benefits in doing this, other than the interesting colour effect. Would a combination of two different strings brings the best out of the two strings, or would it just make things worse? -Rick
Actually its ok to have hybrid stringing.. but make sure u use the same kind of strings. .. No no no for different kind of strings.
Why not? I've done BG65 main and BG66 cross, BG65Ti main and BG68Ti cross, as well as BG85 main and BG80 cross before. Nothing really special was gained other than longer main strings lifespan.
But was anything lost? Surely, they are not the same as one strung with the same string type for main and cross.
i dont think its wise to use 2 diff strings,... its plain dumb... well i had my strings changed diff color but same bg.
I did a bit of research and it seems like hybrid stringing is actually somewhat common in tennis. Most applications tend to use more durable mains coupled with softer crosses. According to the tennis folks, the sturdy mains will provide durability, while the softer crosses give the string bed a softer feel upon impact (compared to using the same durable stuff for crosses as well). It seems like this is precisely what ayl has done with his hybrid string jobs as well. Then again, I have precisely chosen to do this the other way around, using the slightly softer Gosen GS-80 as mains, and the stiffer Gosen Roots Aermet for crosses... Granted, I did this because the left over piece of Roots Aermet was short (only 14'), so I couldn't have used it for the mains. I'll let everyone know how this combination feels like in a week or two. In the mean time, please continue to share your experiences/opinions on the topic. -Rick
I will tell you why the main string last longer. BG65 (main) -> its thickness is 0.70 BG66 (cross) -> its thickness is 0.66 In normal conditions, of course BG-65, which is a thicker string, will last longer. BG65Ti(main) : 0.70 BG68Ti(cross) : 0.68 Same thing in here also. 0.70 > 0.68.
Exactly right bluejeff. You got it spot on. Using thicker gauge string on main is to extend lifespan of string. In terms of performace there's very little noticeble difference unless you are using high tensions. And to notice any difference you'll need conduct a close comparison between a hybrid strung racket to an identical, standard strung racket. Even then you'll be hard pressed to notice any difference between the two, except for the BG65 / BG66 combination, where a more pronunced difference can be felt comparing to a BG85 / BG80 combo or a BG65Ti / BG68Ti combo. My sugguestions to both Ants and Unregistered is not make any assumptions unless you have tried it out yourself first hand. Everyone had a critical eye on Wright Brothers when they made an airplane out of bicycle and sail boat parts. I doubt anybody laughted at them after their backyard job finally took mankind into aeronautical age.
good point ayl. I've tried it few times and personally i dont like the feel. even the main or cross strings last longer.. once it snapped.. you will have to change new sets of strings.
for that statement to be valid, it means that u r able to distinguish all the different BG strings and tensions, blindfolded.
In tennis, don't the mains take more of a pounding because of the topspin they use? I don't think slice in badminton is comparable
Some string companies have experimented with this. A company called Forten in the US sells one of their strings that is actually two different strings made of different materials and such. I have a few packages but I've never gotten around to try it out. If you want multi-coloured racquets, I know Canadian Tire and WalMart have a $10-15 racquet made out of steel with rainbow coloured strings.
I thought BG-85 has something similar to that.....mix of white and blue string (although I don't like it )
Yeah, as a matter of fact, when I was looking through some tennis stringing sites, it seems like it is pretty rare for the cross strings on tennis racquets to snap. With badminton, I think the "snap ratio" between mains and crosses is quite a bit closer. (Didn't someone create a poll for this?) When I was in junior high (scary, that's 10+ years ago... ), rainbow-coloured strings were all the rage back then. I guess that fad finally ended eh? -Rick
when i go outside, the air feel different for me too. does that mean i know what's in the outside air that i walk into? do u know that in many medical experiment, plecebo have a positive respond with many of the test subjects
