    Anyone fancy a competition?
I propose a competition to see who can do the fastest shuttle runs.
8 shuttles across the width of a doubles court.

We could use the same Age Categories from BRLs "so whats your age?" thread to give us old guys a chance

    [A] 0-17
    18-24
    [C] 25-35
    [D] 36-49
    [E] 50+

I'll start you off with 30.3 seconds in the D category

you put 8 shuttles on one of the sidelines.
You start from the other sideline, and have to run back and forth across the court to move the shuttles to the other sideline, one at a time.
Get someone to time how long it takes you.

drop the shuttle or neatly stacked on the line? what is the acceptable tolerance for DNF. this sounds like fun. tonight.

I thought the HEIGHT and WEIGHT factors will be more inconsistent. Maybe badrad can confirm or LazyBuddy for that matter?

yeah, doubles (that's what I said in the first post, anyway)

when putting down, I would say you should place it down gently. The object being for you to have your body under control. (could have a 1 second penalty for each shuttle not standing up on the line if you like)

If DNF means Did Not Finish, then just record how many shuttles completed in how long.

Height maybe more than weight. It has more of an effect on your stride pattern.

Maybe you or some maths wiz here can work out an "Equalization Scheme" to equate the timings of the various age groups for a more meaningful comparision, otherwise we old timers will always be at the bottom of the list. Bad for morale!

Are we to run, or chasse, with a lunge? One of my friends does this, but from one diagonal to the other using some form of footwork

Whatever combination gets you there fastest...
for me, it's run, lunge, recover, run, lunge, recover, etc.

loh, height and weight shouldnt be factored in because those parameters are you, yourself, they go with you whether u play single or double, good gym or bad gym. This test is about self assesment. Only parameter outside yourself is considered as variable.

Exactly, You cant go to a tournament, and ask for a 5 point head start, cause you are overweight/underweight, or too tall/too small

Agree, if you compete in the same category.

But to make an allowance for differences, especially in age and gender, that's why competitions like the Masters are held for different age categories. Under normal circumstances, the older player and the females are weaker. And ex-Internationals are obviously more skilful.

That's also why I suggested that the times of the various age groups be equated by some form of measurement if possible. The results will then be quite interesting and you may then end up with the 'fastest corrected time' coming from the older age group instead of the youngest.
