FAVOURITES China and South Korea began the their campaign in the Thomas Cup Asian zone qualifying round with one-sided victories over minnows Vietnam and Macau respectively at the KLBA Stadium in Cheras yesterday.
China played their strongest paraded their best and whitewashed Vietnam 5-0 in Group D, while South Korea fielded singles shuttlers Lee Hyun Il and Shon Seung, as in the doubles to beat Macau by a similiar scoreline.

World No 1 Chen Hong wasted no time against Nguyen Anh Quoc, as he secured rushing to a 15-6, 15-0 win in just 22 minutes. Vietnam requested the second singles to be played ahead of the first doubles, where Anh Quoc was to partner Tran Thanh Hai, and an unprepared Lin Dan struggled for a 15-12, 15-10 win over Nguyen Tien Minh. Bao Chunlai gave China an unassailable 3-0 lead when he defeated Ngyen Quang Minh 15-11, 15-1. Cai Yun-Fu Haifeng took just 22 minutes to beat Anh Quoc-Than Hai 15-0, 15-6 while Sang Yang-Zheng Bo completed the rout with a 15-11, 15-8 win over Thien Minh-Quang Minh. Chinese singles coach Zhong Bo was not worried about Lin Dan and Chunlai's performance and expected them to get better in the tournament. "Lin Dan and Chunlai did not have enough warm-up as Vietnam requested for the doubles to be played first. They played average below par but we are not complaining," said Zhong Bo. "Overall, they had a played well and it is a good start for us." The Koreans, despite switching their line-up crushed Macau in a record time, needing only 75 minutes for their victory. Park Tae Sang whipped Chan Lo Chong 15-1, 15-0 to give his side the lead while Park Sung Hwan thrashed Lai Kit Hon 15-0, 15-1 in 10 minutes to for a 2-0 lead. Yim Bang Eun-Kim Yong Hyun made it 3-0 when they hammered Chan Lo Chong-Wan Sze Ming 15-1, 15-4 while singles players Hyun Il-Seung Mo handed a 15-0, 15-0 drubbing to Lo Zon Weng-Wong Keng Hou. Bang Eun defeated Leong Kin Fai 15-0, 15-1 to complete the easy victory. China should have no problems securing their second win against Taiwan today while the Koreans will have another fieldl day as they will meet minnows Iran. Group D: China 5 Vietnam 0; Thailand 5 Taiwan 0. Uber Cup Group B: South Korea 5 Vietnam 0; Taiwan 4 Thailand 1.
