I am six weeks post ACL op now. Doing rehab like twice a week now. Just wanna ask, how long did you guys do the rehab before gaining confidence to play again?

And is rehab alone enough? Do I need any gym work?

I started playing, albeit very very VERY lightly after about 3 months. I was doing weekly sessions with the physio, plenty of strengthening work and lots of bike riding (on an exercise bike) on a daily basis before my physio cleared me for light hit ups.

Really it comes down to what your physio says and how your knee reacts to post surgery rehab and exercise.

I guess you had daily access to yr physio sessions?
I wonder if just doing twice a week is enough coz going more often would really kill my pocket!!

I was doing once a week but having health insurance covers some of the cost of my physio sessions. Twice a week should be fine as long as you're quite dedicated to doing the strengthening work.

Hey guys, you all know what shot/maneuver you did that cost your ACL to tear right?

When you all came back to play again after the surgery, did you dare to do that same maneuver again? Any phobia there? I sort of have that phobia if I am well enough to play...... Is it worth the risk?

Yep, I went for a real ambitious lunging/diving backhand retrieve when I heard my knee go pop. I had the phobia for a good month or two but as I regained confidence in my knee and movements, the fear eventually went to the point it doesn't bother me.

However I'm more pro-active when it comes to knee pain and swelling. I'm more than happy to miss a session or two in the interests of extending my playing career lol

I tore my ACL executing the same shot, however it seems that I didn't hop over a bit and I just leaned over too much so my body turned but foot stayed put. After surgery (hamstring graft), I started playing lightly around 6 months, on and off.

Now, 1 year and 4 months later, I am still a bit hesitant on leaning over that much to get overhead shots, however I have been trying to adapt to hopping a bit so my leg/foot/knee can properly support my body. I don't think I'm as active as I was before I tore my ACL though, still gotta work out and gain more knee strength =P
