Hey guys, I live in Massachusetts and a university student so can't afford to really buy any expensive racquets.. I'm an international student, and played quite a bit of badminton back home and wanted to continue playing at my university but the racquets on offer at the university Rec center are the cheapest available and not very comfortable to play with. I wanted to buy one but there are not shops nearby for me to get a feel of the racquet and decide either so I'll have to order one online. I was hoping one of you could recommend for a price of around $30-40? Thanks
Hmmm, for starters, do describe yourself abit more in details: Type of player - defensive, offensive or balanced? Kind of racket you are looking for: even balanced, headlight, head heavy. Type of play: singles or double? Weight that you are looking at coz not everyone can handle the same racket eg. Z-force. Any preference etc. Level of play Finally, are you comfortable with 2nd hand rackets? These details will be easier for fellow bc-ers to help to narrow down. I'm pretty sure there's some badminton lovers out in Massachusetts and have a few spare unused rackets.
Type of player - defensive Kind of racket you are looking for: No preference really, maybe head heavy racquets Type of play: I'm a better doubles player, i'm not very mobile. Weight: Lightest available at that price point i guess Level of play: Amateur I don't mind 2nd hand racquets to be honest.
I was browsing the web, and the best racquet i could find in my budget was the Carlton Power surge 700.. How good is that?
u can order online, wide range available. do u want to stick to the big brands like yonex, lining, victor, carlton?
You budget is a bit tight IMO. However, for defensive type of play head-heavy racket may not be the best choice. I think YY Nanoray 20 should be close to your budget.
how about yonex carbonex 8600? good classic racket http://www.badmintonwarehouse.com/mobile/product.aspx?ProductCode=rycab8600 or aerogel 5000 they have buy 2 get 1 special light but solid http://www.badminton.net/cart/product_info.php?cPath=1_96&products_id=847
http://supremesportssupply.com/ you might want to try this site because he has good rackets. He sells rackets at good prices, and he might be sympathetic to your situation. I bought a Winex racket from him for $70 and it's my favorite racket. I don't know how much shipping is.
Ok.. Will give it a try and see.. why are racquets so expensive in the US? They're so much cheaper in Asia
lol yeah, still a developing sport in the US. idk much about the scene in mass/greater boston area but it's alright in nyc/nj, chicago/st.louis and the west. there may be experienced coaches around the city, outside your university. does your campus have a team/league with good players that compete in local or regional championships?
Not really.. most of students who play are asian students.. no one else is really interested in the sport around here
If you are looking for competition, the Maugus club in the suburbs of Boston is very good, but also VERY expensive.
where are you come from? if you are from Asia, then really, it is not worth it to buy a racket in the US. when you going back for summer vacation, you can go and look around your local shop. at that price point, any racket is fine as long as it is a carbon racket with weight of 3U (85-90gram) / 4U (80-85gram). or if you really want a brand suggestion I suggest you to buy an apacs racket. any apacs racket should be fine. if you are from Indonesia, then look for brand such as astec or hart example of apacs racket (total of 50usd) (I am just giving an example, I have no idea if you can trust the seller or not. use paypal to be safe) http://www.ebay.com/itm/Apacs-Finap...421?pt=LH_DefaultDomain_0&hash=item3cdada3985
I have a few decent racquets back home in India to be honest.. All pretty good, cost about $100-150 each.. Looking into the possibilty of getting my parents to ship them but i'm scared that the racquets might get damaged while shipping..
Avenger, just a quick q: how famous are Arbi (Flypower) rackets over there in Indonesia? is hart a bigger brand than Arbi?
Well, there risks involved but u can minimize them by: . Cutting the string: no broken string, no misshapened racket . Wrap it up in bubble wraps n plastered tight.
