M/Q Report version 1 (updated 30th January 2014) : http://www.bwfbadminton.org/file.aspx?id=528952&dl=1
Wow, Cai Yun is playing with Lu Kai in the MD. Obviously, CBA wants Cai Yun to teach the youngster how to play. I've seen Lu Kai play before. He's like 6'5, really slow, powerful smash, but totally sucks at everything else. Zhang Nan/Fu Haifeng are also registered...but they can't even get into the qualifiers. They are reserves. Others absent are Lin Dan, Suo Di, Xue Song.
Wow... I'm really surprised that Praveen/Debby and Vita/Rijal only get in the reserve list despite having high points with their old partner respectively, whereas at the last Malaysia Open they got into the main list.
Anyone knows Das/Ahlawat ? How come they have higher notional points than ex top 10 players like Rijal/Vita and Jordan/Debby ? Also Nottingham/Smith
With Lee YD and Kim KJ absence, KOR only registered 1 MD pair here, Ko SH/Shin BC. We'll see who's Yoo YS and Kim SR partner in next tourneys...
Shon Wan Ho, Bae YJ, Sung Ji Hyun, Ko Sung Hyun, Shin BC, Kim Ha Na, Jung Kyung Eun, Jang Ye Na and Kim So Young all registered in : Germany, All England and Swiss. 3 tournaments in a row. as I said it many times, Korea doesn't care about AE. several times since 2006, Korea top players involved in 3 tournaments in a row. remember, Germany and Swiss only GPG events, so it is normal if they focus in AE. but the reality ?
Wang Yihan, WSX, Xu Chen / Ma Jin and Bao / Tang take part in swiss gpg. pretty strong line up from china squad. compare with other countries, except Korea, this is much more better. except WSX, all names already won SS /SSP titles in 2014. current world champion hendra / ahsan and ToLyn, plus LCW, they all absent from germany and swiss. for clean sweep, it really depends to ROW. if they (ROW) well prepared, high motivation and focus in AE only, then no way China can win all five. but if not, then surely china has a chance. for china itself, they don't care about AE long tradition and history. AE means nothing for china...from past to present...from Li Lingwei's era to LXR's era... from Han Jian's era to LD / LCW / CL's era...that's the fact.
bcoz other member also repeating again and again and again that AE is prestigious...have a long tradition and history...more prestigious than other SSP, even some member says AE more prestigious than WC broken record also
At first, I thought Ahsan/Hendra probably will not win this year AE because Hendra's wife is giving birth to twin. But I read in newspaper today that Hendra is so focused in training, he has not taken any time off training yet until after AE. I guess they might have a chance.
I suspect: ms: Chen or J.Jorgensen md: Hendra / Ahsan ws: LI Xuerui or SUNG Ji Hyun wd: BAO Yixin / TANG Jinhua xd: Zhang / Zhao or Natsir / Ahmad This is based on my observations they perform over the past 2 months, but there are some names that might surprise, The most potential is Joachim F. / P. Christinna for xd L.C.Wei and Tommy S for ms and TAI Tzu Ying to ws
all tournaments it is important if not essential, why waste the energy to participate? talk like a headless chicken.....
Fortune: for china itself, they don't care about AE long tradition and history. AE means nothing for china...from past to present...from Li Lingwei's era to LXR's era... from Han Jian's era to LD / LCW / CL's era...that's the fact. What is this, a dream or crazy? talk like a headless chicken.....
now, since you've mentioned it http://www.badmintoncentral.com/forums/showthread.php/139196-It-s-offical
Fortune, it's undeniably true that All England is a MAJOR tournament for it's current SSP status (even though it offers the lowest prize money in that class). It's also true that for some countries such as Indonesia, Malaysia (?), Japan (?), and so on All England may pose some additional significance due to their some historic achievements there. But for the relatively newcomers to the world's unified badminton association such as China, it's true that All England is simply another SSP tournament. China just participated there in 1980s. However, wrt the "extra" significance of the All England SSP tournament beyond it's SSP status, if any, I can tell that such significance is gradually fading away. In the old days there were just few major tournaments, and the All England was the oldest one and regarded as the most prestigious individual tournament back then. But today there are so many major tournaments, and again, SSPs with much bigger prize money so thing is quite different. There is no point to repeatedly, endlessly dispute its significance today, for we the human will get bored very fast with the repetitions... it's human nature to get dull rapidly and hard to appease Nonetheless the reality will be the ultimate decider and speaks for itself... Peace! ps. But to be fair and thorough, that's what the world today is... everything is arguably losing its original value and appeal compared to the old days. There are simply TOO MANY attractions and distractions to allow human being to stay in focus to some particular things... I'll call it a saturated perception human-being are bombarded with information and entertainments every day... But YMMV!
This year like it should be fun. All England usually has good matches from the start. Too bad the MD is quite weak this year...
MALAYSIA : 2003 AE GOLD medal winner : Hafiz Hashim. Datukship ? no! 2007 AE GOLD medal winner : KKK / TBH. Datukship ? no! 2008 SILVER medalist : LCW. Datukship ? YES ! ok. If OG gold > AE gold, then it is normal. but if Silver > Gold ? what does it mean ? it is far better to become a losser in OG then to become a winner in AE. so where is the prestige of AE ? - BAM High performance Director : "I'am tired Of our players of holding on to the world number one rankings without winning any major titles" http://www.thestar.com.my/story.aspx/?file=/2010/8/21/sports/6895677&sec=sports JAPAN : - no Jpn players had ever won AE title from 198X. more than 30 years. - it is very difficult to win back to back titles (in 2 consecutive weeks), even for LD, LCW, CL and other top players. for Japan, since Super series era in 2007, only Maeda / Suetsuna had ever won back to back titles. 2011 India SS and one of the GPG event. only one in 7 years. - if they consider AE as prestigious, they should focus in AE, and not competing in German, since German only GPG, while AE is SSP. with Jpn finally dominates the German GPG last week, let see if they can end their title drought in AE since 1980's.
