how do you shakehands?

usally under the net. but sometimes over if the other guy is tall too

 

I would usually extend my hand first over the net, but sometimes the other side won't extend as much... so I had to change and shake hands under the net.

 

well, I've never done any shakehand. I give a "Wai" to everybody instead.

 

I was taught to shake hand above the net, or outside the court.

 

i used to shake over or under. i'm kind of short, so it was usually under. but then i started going to more tournaments and i noticed that a lot of the people hi-five instead of an actually shake. so now i hi-five over the net.

 

In a casual setting (ie/ regular players), if I get to the net first, I usually lift-up the net with the handle of my racquet (ie/ I'm holding the shaft), extend my non-racquet hand for a hi-five under the net (thus, I'm a righty).

In a first-time meeting or a tournament, if I lost the game I will offer my sweaty hand, oops, I mean after wiping my hands, I will reach over the net with my right hand.

 

I usually high five now. Depends on the people I'm playing. I picked up the "high five" from my coach. He did it with his badminton buddies and with us whenever we played him. So I just started doing that too.

 

We (people and me) don't shake hands, instead, we say "thanks"

 

I used to do over the net handshakes quite often due to the fact that I'm quite tall. However besides playing at a private club, I get the opportunity to play at recreational clubs too and many players at these rec clubs tend to shake hands below the net. I guess because I've gotten accustomed to under the net handshakes, I 've shifted to doing those more often.

 

I m usually over the net but if the other guy has his hand under the net, then that is fine. Over the net shake hand seems like more champion-like. hehe

 

For me, if it's shaking hands, it's usually under the net. Sometimes we're lazy / goofy, so we just give high fives over the net.

Lift the bottom of the net up and shake hands waist-height. Sometimes get confused, when reaching out for handshake and was greeted with a mid-high fives AND extremely p***-off when others refuse to shake hands (no sportsmanship..lah!)

 

Well, at a club, I will definitely shake hands under the net, sometimes over, but usually under.

With my doubles partner, we usually give high fives, sometimes very loud ones, or sometimes I play with him and miss purposely!

 

It depends. Most of the times i shake hand.. over the net. But in some places where i play , some people don't even shake hands when the game is over.

 

I know cultures are different around the globe but do you not find this rude?

The end of the game handshake is tradition, the looser says well played and the winner says good game. It's all part of the fun, making silly pertinant remarks at the end to sometimes wind up the opposition.

Yeah i find it kinda rude or un sportmanship. Anyway not that they didnt talk to us after the game. we still chit chat.. so its ok.
