I wonder whether anyone has ever tried using cabbage to help maintain their shuttles. I've just had to re-humidify half a tube of birdies that had dried out again. Boston has been very dry recently. Anyway, I got to thinking about how tobacco smokers place a piece of cabbage in their tins to help prevent their tobacco from drying out, and I'm wondering whether anyone has ever done this for their shuttles. Anyone care to try?

Won't a slightly wet thin sponge work just as well?

I think cabbage leaves retain moisture better in cigarette tins than in birdie tubes. Best method of humidifying birdies is still to steam them a day before use.

I think using sponge is better than using cabbage.. never tried it. My shuttles might smell like cabbage. Wanna try shuttle salad? :D

I was told that you can try to put the shuttles in the fridge the night/day b4 you play. this should work

    I suppose it might..

I'm not suggesting replacing the humidifying process - I'm hoping that once I humidify a tube that it won't dry out again.

Er... if that's the case, then how long do you intend to keep the birdies 'fresh'? I am kinda wary about putting vegetables in shuttle tubes cuz they get spoilt real quick w/o refrigeration and gets really stinky afterwards. Might as well do what Kenny suggested: keep the tubes refrigerated before and take them out when you go to the club.

Well, I really don't think putting cabbage in the tube is such a good idea. The tube might grow some black dots after doing so......

Just use water or humidifier is fine.....then remember to close the cap really tight.
