Three combinations: both rights, both lefts, right and left. Which pair would works better in theory? Which combination won more? Would you prefer playing with a lefty or right hand player.
^agree doesn't really matter i think if they're your regular partner. If it was just random matchup for me I'd rather play with a righty since I am right handed, it can be confusing sometimes side to side if the shuttle goes in the middle and it's on both our forehand/backhands who takes it if my partner was a left hander. As for winning pairs i guess CY/FHF were R/L and JJS/LYD were R/R
Left & Right combos are the best. Or Left/Left combos because the opponent doesn't realise until the're eating a smash. Sound familiar Ramcov?
left and right. you could arrange in such a way that during defensive position. the right handed is at the right court and the left handed at left. and as we all know it's easier to return smashes with backhand and it's easier to smash to the middle of the court instead of the sides. so statistically speaking. left and right is the best. in almost all strategy games/sports, it's preferrable to have variety of skills rather than all in a group specializing in one skill. heck even with genetics too. imagine all of us having the same genotype. extinction would be so easy (sorry i got side-tracked) correct me if i'm wrong
I would think 1. R - L 2. L - L 3. R - R I think L - L combination might be tough because you rarely see this - but I think it's easier to adjust to this after a little time. R-R - is the most common - easy to find the backhand. R-L - freaking confusing especially if they have good rotation - trying to figure out where the backhand is difficult.
I'm left handed and so is my regular league partner and I'd say its worth at least 6 points per game as our opponents try to adjust or even fail to notice. I had a little joke with Ramcov over it in the thread because we played his club a week or so ago and his partner didn't notice until it was too late. Difficulties arise when I've been paired with a right hander who is not used to a left handed partner which is quite common. We spend a lot of the games looking at each other as a shot comes down the middle.
at my low level it doesn't matter, but i do have a leftie mixed doubles partner and i myself am a leftie also. but somehow i feel that when we are in defense after she lifts, i end up getting most of the blocks in front of her. at the pros' level, you can see how the Denmark top women's doubles struggle at times to return shots taken down the middle with one left and one right, with this last All England getting Pedesen's face wacked by Juhl!!!
lol just saw this now. that was unfortunate (for us) but true. i remember saying to steve: "how do they return on their bh like that?" after the match. then we realised…:$
