    Hello everybody!

My invention is a device in the racket that uses centrifugal force to automatically change balance point. Current rackets have their balance point closer to the head of the racket or closer to the handle and the players have to choose using one or another type, according to their personal preferences and skills.
Players in badminton doubles usually have “head light” rackets for much needed speed and vigilance or maneuverability, but when in attack position, ready to smash, they too would welcome a little extra kinetic energy, that will appear on account of instant change of BP.
My device does these changes. When the racket is not swinging, or when the centrifugal force is not big enough, the weight is near the handle, but when it reaches big enough centrifugal force, the weight will move toward head and BP will change. The swing gets increased moment of inertia (MOI).
My idea combines both of the possibilities in the same racket. There were several similar ideas in the past, but were not practical and therefore nobody used them.

    Frame: 100% H.M. Graphite TORAY-700 /
    SHAFT: 30T-100% H.M. GRAPHITE
    Two pieces / 1 U / 675+-2mm
/ isometric head / Stiff shaft / Ti MASH / Aero tech frame
    max string tension 26 lbs
/combination of weight and balance makes the racket easy to swing and maneuver and generates explosive smashes.
WIN THE GAME WITH THE superb racket WITH SPEED, POWER AND CONTROL
    Balance : HEAD-LIGHT BECOMES HEAD-HEAVY BY OVERCOMING
    ANGULAR velocity 40 RAD/s

This may be a dumb question, but how exactly does this work? Sounds a great idea? And did you really mean 1U?

^I second that. Is there a ball bearing within the shaft or what?

I assume there must be something like that, but probably in the head of the racket to have any noticeable impact. Could make a hell of a noise when smashing.

probably a liquid inside? imagine when you swing all the fluid goes to the head... when when its upright the liquid flows down giving a lighter head.. hahaha :p

    PATENT APPLICATIONS

    1. The device for changing balance point of the racket is caracteristic by the
spring (1) and weight (2) built in the neck of the racket.
    2. The device from patent application 1
    is caracteristic by the
built in single compression type spring (1).
    3. The device from patent application 1
    is caracteristic by the
    built in single weight (2).
    4. The device from patent application 1
    is caracteristic by the
material for weight (2) is wolfram (tungstein) or gold.

THE DEVICE FOR CHANGING BALANCE POINT (BP) OF THE RACKET

The issue of the invention is the device for changing of the balance point (BP) of the racket, or more accurately, the device that changes balance point of the racket with the help of the centrifugal force. It is useful mostly for badminton rackets, but it could also be useful for other sports with ball and racket, or even bat.

Technical problem the invention solves: When BP is closer to handle, the control of the racket and its accuracy is better which is good for playing near the net. When BP is closer to the head of the racket, the force of striking the ball is bigger therefore the balls speed is bigger. Nowadays, the rackets have BP fixed and the player has to choose between two possibilities. My invention combines both possibilities in the same racket.

    Related inventions:

    1. US patent No.: 6,623383 B3 and US patent No.: 4,325549, where the BP is not automatically returned to the first position and so the user (player) is not able of intensive, dinamical play.

    2. US patent No.: 6,575,854 and US patent No.: 5,779,571, which are inpossible to make because adding several construction elements and thus increasing weight of the racket. Also the weight elements are travelling through the head of the racket making curved way and incrising possibility of defect and jamming. The device for changing of balance point (BP) of the racket is made of the spring (1) and the weight (2). It is inbuilt to the neck of the racket. The invention differs from other similar inventions by position and the construction of the device inside of the neck of the racket.

Construction of the device: The weight (2) and the spring (1) are joined together. The spring (1) is closer to the head of the racket and the weight (2) is closer to the handle. The weight is changing its position by following the shape of the neck of the racket.

OPERATION: When there is no or not enough centrifugal force, the BP stays closer to the center of the racket and allows easier manipulation. When there is enough centrifugal force, the weight (2) travels closer to the head of the racket and so the BP moves closer to the head and helps to increase the striking force of the racket.

    The advantages of the device:

    1. The spring is compression type
    2. The weight travels linearly
    3. The change of BP is in optimal range
    4. Only one weight
    5. The material for weight is wolfram (tungstein) or gold.

Overall racket weight is 96-98g with the patent, but it does not feel head heavy, because the weight of patent is mainly concentrated near the handle. BP changes from 285 to 300.

interesting. The language is appalling for an official document, but interesting idea nonetheless.

It will be interesting to see if players can use it consistently.

Although it does sound quite interesting and innovative in adjusting bp on the fly, I can already do this on any racket ... with my hand... by gripping higher or lower on the handle... to change bp by up to 70mm! ;)

There must be situations in defence where you want the fast speed, but the BP changes and you get the 'power mode' version => I think this would be pretty annoying.

I would imagine that the racket is designed to adjust itself so if your swing speed is high enough you'll get the extra head weight coming through so it's not as easy as saying speed mode or power mode. Likely end scenario... Highly unstable racket that isn't consistent in swing or performance as the change in balance will come near the end of your stroke and throw your timings off. Should make for a good smash though so who cares about the rest.
