First choice, badminton shoes, if you find the usual brands/models too expensive, then next thing is either volleyball shoes or general indoor court shoes. Asics has good basic indoor court shoes such as the GEL Upcourt and the GEL Rocket, and is a good brand. I have the GEL Rocket and a lower end Forza shoe. The Forza is about the same price as the Asics, US ~$45-55.
i first started playing casual badminton with my volleyball shoes that were already aged 10yrs beacuse they felt comfy..so i'm just curious: why are volleyball shoes are more suited than basketball/running shoes to badminton?
Because in volleyball u also do a lot of jumping n lunging to the sidelines. The players movements on the court are multidirectional too.
volleyball shoes are also "indoor" shoes, and most of indoor shoes have the same basic function which is to support the user to move to all direction while baskeball is also indoor, however, basketball shoes are aimed to protect the ankle (that's why they have a high cut shoes). IMO, their high cut is not suitable for badminton since it restrict player's movement running shoes: running shoes only support one direction, which is to the front. that's what their purpose. for running to the front, not to the back, not to the side compare it by yourselves: badminton: basketball: notice that both has indoor quality shoes. however the badminton one is more specific such as different pattern for the back of the shoes to anticipate the player moving backward plus, look at how bulky and high it is. compared to badminton shoes that does not restrict the ankle too much running: the shoes itself screams: MOVE FORWARD!. the sole is black (which will dirty the court) plus the sole does not support multi direction movement want to see something more bizzare? imagine of using these shoes for badminton:
if you get high end, high grip low cut basketball shoes they are pretty good. i was using kobe 8 for a while before i got my victor 9000ace
