do I have your attention??? well I am just quoting what I read here. just wanted to share this with you guys\gals. What do you think? http://www.martinwells.com/Badmintology/Practical/Sessions/WarmUp.htm this link is from the general website on badmintonology http://www.martinwells.com/Badmintology/index.htm I tried to search to see if this was covered. could not come up with anything. he(\she) says one should not stretch before a workout. They do say that warm up is essential, but stretching is less useful than what we thought it to be. Any comments?
Stretching is so important before you play, that comes from my coach and my fitness trainer. Whenever I get to a tournament, my coach always tells me to stretch, she does not tell me to warm up right away, but to stretch right away. Just my thoughts ...
Hmmm... I thought it was always important to warm up before stretching, otherwise the stretching doesn't really have much of any effect. Phil
Stretching prepares your muscles for any form of physical activity, which entails warming up. Because the average warm up involves foot movement and light shots, you're muscles have to be stretched or else it is extremely easy to hurt them. It is common knowledge and widely known that even a tiny movement can cause a tear or rupture.
ive always been conditioned to warm up first before stretching. a light jog for a few minuted should do. it wont be too much for your muscles either. stretching cold isnt so good. its like trying to stretch thick plastic instead of thick rubber.
so which is it? warm up first? or stretch first? from what I can make out of these posts, it sounds like - start with a "warm up" of say jogging around the gym, just to start with it - follow it with simple stretching, then stretch more, and then warm up on court (with racket, shuttle and partner - clears, drives, drops and smashes and drills) that sound right to anyone?
For me, the order is: 1. Warmup - Jogging laps around gym, usually 2 to 4 laps jogging, 2 laps running backwards, 2 laps side shuffle, then other laps of assorted foot movements. I've heard that your body isn't warmed up enough until you are sweating from behind your knee. 2. Stretch - Stretches in order of ankles, shins, ankle/butt, lunge, 3 different back stretches, then arms, wrists, etc. 3. A couple more laps after stretching, and then go into shots, starting with drives to warmup shoulder because starting out with clears is hard on your shoulder if it isn't warmed up yet. Phil
