Hi all, After i dig out my storeroom, i found a carbonex original 20 which is more than 20 yrs old. Is it worth restringing? and what tension should i set it to? Can such a old racket hold 22lbs?
for sure! there are some here on the forum that still useit as their go to racket... just make sure the grommets are still in good condition, and make sure the 12 o clock holes are not sunken in, as that's where the weak point is

does the wording on the shaft say 'carbonex 20 sp' or 'carbonex 20' Or can you remember roughly which year it was bought. 22lbs tension will be fine. Mine are strung at 28lbs and still going fine. Been using for about 15 years
[MENTION=7]Cheung[/MENTION] The wording is carbonex 20. The racket was pass down from my relative when he was playing for his college and he is almost 50 now(i guess) Actually all i worry is that whether this old vintage racket can hold the 22lbs tension. haha
The original cab 20 is not the most rigid frame, so do be careful when stringing. I have strung one of mine to 27lb before but as I no longer play with them, my other three were just kept as part of the collection and restrung to 21-22lb. Check around the frame to see if there are any significant "section loss" chips/scratches... and also any cracks. Many cracks tend to propogate from grommet holes so check all the grommet holes for any cracks. Finally, if you decide to restring, make sure it is done on a 6-point support machine and by an experienced stringer. Replace any damaged grommets and if you get along with them, try and use a thicker string to reduce the stress on the grommets. Other than that enjoy!
