No it's not legal. Part of body.

If you watch the umpire, it's clear that he totally missed seeing 'the hand' part.
I'm surprised the Belgians didn't insist on summoning the tournament referee!

Lol... That's totally pathetic cheating. Just because the umpire didn't see it and no spectators nor even his own partner saw it... and he carries on as if nothing happened.

You won't even see anyone getting away with this in a social game.

    Haha yeah?
I never noticed until he went to pick up his racket, if it weren't for that clue I wouldn't have noticed at all :D.

Haha... And he had the audacity to pretend nothing happened.

Reminds me of the time when Mogensen returned a smash that bounced off the mat, and he tried to argue he didn't. Fortunately the sharp eyed umpire was paying attention and would have none of it and the video replay easily showed it. ;)

    That's blatently cheating haha.
Although sometimes things happen and no one really knows whats going on. I play casually so we just replay it or give benefit of the doubt, usually good enough for me

    I'm not critizising the player!
But the ref should have read the rules...;.)

I'm aware that you are not, but the player doesn't even know he is cheating.

And we quite agree that the Umpire should have seen this and called a fault, and if not him then the Ref. if he saw this instance. Or even the service judge should have seen this and made the umpire aware of this fault.

That's true, the player might not know it. (We can't tell...)

    Undisputed:
The ref/umpire/service judge should have seen it. They are there to enforce the rules, that's not the players job...

How do we know that the player in question did not know he was cheating?

We don't, and it is abit besides the point.
I am merely surprised that ppl thinks that the pro players knows the rules.
From my experience they do know the basic rules as most other players do, but very few of them have actually read the rules or those that have doesn't remember them ;)

Which professional player would be stupid enough to not know that hitting the shuttle with your hand is a fault?

Hahah serious? clutching at straws here.
Every pro player knows that the shuttle can't touch their body. There aren't many more "basic rules" than that.

Thanks to all for the replies. I saw some mentioned on Facebook that "hand" is not body, therefore his shot was legal.

I was thus confused. I guess it is just playing with words.

Haha yeah and elephants can fly. They are maybe not part of the body if you take some mind altering substance which that facebooker is clearly on.
