She is now officially Yonex sponsored player. I don't know what model racket she is using in the swiss open.. looks like a Mp77.
They will be replace by other players or maybe just a normal picture as now Mia is under Yonex sponsorship
she is now a Dutch player, not Danish. she married this Dutch guy (the guy in the picture) and moved to the Netherlands.
Mia's still Indonesian but she plays for the Netherlands. When she moved to the Netherlands to follow her husband, she asked Indonesian Badminton Association (PBSI) if she could still play for Indonesia but train in the Netherlands. The answer was a stern "NO". I am not too sure why, but I always think it's about money. Indonesian players only get 50% of tournament money and the other half goes to the Association saying it's for the cost of the being in the training centre and such. If Mia does not train or physically be in the training centre, then the money matter will get rather complicated I guess. PBSI says they didn't regret at all in their decision to let go Mia because there would be more to take her place in the squad. I still think it was a big mistake and now Indonesia has been so dormant in the ladies squad and Mia is enjoying her success--under the dutch umbrella.
really want to do it! Whenever I see her play I really want to bend my back the way she does it between rallies to avoid backhand. But how the hell do I do it!? It's just extraordinary!
It's because she has what my doctor said "hypermobility" in the lower back muscle. Thanks to her, I am doing the same thing and have to visit my physioterapist regularly. I don't know if her doctor ever said anything about that. But it's definitely more control than a backhand and yes it's Mia's trademark. Haven't seen any player doing the same thing. Aki
Does that "hypermobility" comes naturally in the muscle or can you also train for it...with the help of exercises?
I don't think you want to train for something not good Obviously, it was my bad habit of forcing the muscle to move at such extreme position--like Mia--and doing it for years because find it easier than doing a backhand. Now, my job is to isolate the muscles to not become hypermobile.......this is SO difficult!!! Aki
Mia's cool. She's really stretchy isn't she? it's kind of scary how far she can bend. I think indonesia's really wrong to let Mia go. No other Indonesian female player is half as gud as Mia.
