They do issue yellow cards in badminton, just like in soccer! I saw a couple of yellow cards given to a few players in the recent Thomas qualifying round in Malaysia, mostly against the receiver for taking too long to get ready to receive a serve. There was also a yellow card for arguing with the umpire.

It's a warning that's for sure, just like in footie. Have anyone seen red cards yet?

I've only seen yellow - about 2 years ago in the Scottish open for rather unsportsman like behaviour on court (not me).

There are yellow, red and black cards for BAofE tournaments.

A yellow card represents a warning for misconduct. A red card represents a fault for misconduct, following a yellow card warning. So a red card means you lose a point (or a serve)!

A black card means disqualification from the event for serious or persistent misconduct, and can only be administered by the tournament referee.

Cai got a red for kicking his bag at the All England Open after their loss to Boe/Moegensen. But it was after the match ended.

Koo got a yellow for asking for the tournament referee after the umpire did not fault Mogensen for being hit in the body by Tan's serve in the Denmark Open 2009.

I remember Lin Dan getting a yellow in the 2008 Korea Open MS finals when a bad line call was made.

i remember wang yihan getting a red card for supposedly wiping off her sweat and throwing it on the court and asking for the court mopper to come on, i guess the umpire thought she did it on purpose as a delaying tactic

Here's the beginning part of the updated rules on receiving cards:

    ---
On other elements related to the Competition Regulations on Penalties, the implementation of fines for players who have received yellow and red cards in the first quarter of 2010 in BWF sanctioned tournaments, as agreed by Council in November 2009, is in progress. Please see details below:

General Competition Regulations 31 Penalties states:

3.1.1 Any player/pair, coach or team official, tournament organizer who commits an offence as shown in regulation 31.2 shall be levied with a penalty as stated in the Table of Offences and Penalties – Appendix 11).

    Offence

A yellow card in any BWF sanctioned tournament will be liable to a fine US$500 on the receipt of the THIRD yellow card.

A red card in any BWF sanctioned tournament will be liable to a fine of US$500 (for level 1 to 3 tournaments).
