I never saw any prof. player wearing glasses, playing competitive matches.

Does that mean the chance of making it to the top level in badminton is almost inexistent if you are wearing glasses?

i guess high level play require extremely good vision, that is why spectacled players cannot see the shuttle accurately enough. Maybe also some of them wear contact lens, which we cannot see.

That comes to the question on how important is excellent vision in badminton.

They mostly wear contacts, as in quick fire badminton it may be dangerous to have glasses on. A shuttle may hit it directly and break the glass/plastic, putting shards into the eyes. Also, using contacts will make the head feel freer and lighter, as well as 'cleaner' as sweat flows.

I was hit twice with a shuttle during one game and it broke, and that is by an amateur above average player - imagine if Kim Dong Moon hits one straight into your glasses... "I see... red... it was... blur... I do not know... but it felt warm" ;)

IMO, I believe wearing glasses (w/ high-index plastic) is much safer than without glasses or just wearing contacts. At least the lense will pop out of the frame rather than severe/permanent damage to the cornea. I also have heard some horror stories of contacts shreading into tiny fragments within the eye after being struck.

With that said, I do wear contacts for competitive games in order to give me a greater peripheral view of my opponents before I attempt my return.

I am pretty sure contacts are the preferred for the professional players.

    Cheers! :)

    SHON Seung Mo

I believe wearing glasses is much safer than without glasses, too.

SHON was a high-school student. The shuttle cock hit to SHON's left eye.

The Korean friend talked to me. It becomes blind the left side eye.

    He is very poor!!

    not joking~

It is my mistake. I'm sorry.

BUT, It's not joking. It was donated the left side eye a few years ago.

I wanted emphasizing that the shuttle cock is danger.
