Ovtcharov Signed With Jiangsu Team For Two Seasons Of Super League

    Patrick Tan May 12, 2014, 3:32 a.m.

Dimitrij Ovtcharov has been on a steady rise in the international table tennis scene. Currently, he has surpassed Timo Boll. With this, his status as a player also increases, earning him high treatments in the Super League. With his potentials, Jiangsu has signed him for two seasons in the Super League.

Modern Express. Dimitrij Ovtchaorv is now the hottest European player not only in the international scene but also in the Chinese Super League.

Dimitrij Ovtcharov is currently ranked 4th in the world and he is the highest ranking European player. He has defeated Zhang Jike, Xu Xin and Wang Hao before. For this upcoming 2014 Chinese Super League, Ovtcharov is contracted to play for Jiangsu.

"Ovtcharov is currently the most powerful player from Europe. He is younger than Timo Boll and he has the potential. Just recently, he has won over Zhang Jike. Therefore, we have signed him for two years." Jiangsu chairman Yang Fei said.

In the previous season, Jiangsu had a powerful lineup with Ma Lin, Chen Qi and Timo Boll. But they only finished in fifth place. At that time, Yang Fei has offered Timo Boll 100,000 yuan ($16,000) appearance fee per match in addition to winning bonuses. Timo Boll recorded 8 wins and 3 losses in that season.

For Ovtcharov's case, Yang Fei has offered the same amount in the hope that he would be able to help the team into the playoffs.

In addition to Ovtcharov, Jiangsu will also have Zhang Chao, Cui Qinglei, Lin Chen, and Cai Wei among others. "Zhang Chao and Cui Qinglei both have strengths." Yang Fei added.
